Research assistant needed for project on gambling regulation

The Centre of Research for Addictions, Control, and Governance (CEACG) is a research unit at the University of Helsinki Faculty of Social Sciences. The research conducted at the group focuses on multidisciplinary approaches related to the control and regulation of addictions, lifestyles and mental health.

We are now looking for a

Research assistant

for a fixed period between June 1st, 2021 and Dec 31st, 2021. There may be some flexibility with the dates (to be agreed). The research assistant will be participating in international research project(s) addressing the topical situation in gambling regulation. The tasks involve data collection, analysis, and reporting results in collaboration with the principal investigator/s. One important task is to provide assistance for research funding applications, involving also legal scholars and their perspectives.

The work can be conducted remotely. The working hours are flexible based on the University guidelines. The selected person must be a master’s level student. Applications from students at the Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki are particularly welcome, due to ongoing revision of the Lottery Act (Arpajaislaki 1047/2001) and ongoing co-operation in various regulatory issues.

Criteria

The person selected for the position should to have good skills in relation to academic research, ability and flexibility to analyse different types of legal and judicial data, and the capacity to conduct work independently.
In addition, we value interest and previous experience in assisting with research work. We also appreciate if you have an interest in topics related to regulation of addictive substances. The applicant should have an excellent English proficiency. Good Swedish proficiency is also expected, due to research related to Åland and/or Nordic countries.

The selected person must be a master’s level student.

Salary

The salary is approximately 2,200 euros a month if working full time.
