2014 IFLA President’s Meeting
“Strong Libraries, Strong Societies: The Impact of Libraries on Society”

Dear colleagues,

It gives me great pleasure to invite you to the IFLA President’s Meeting on a topic of great importance and interest: the impact of libraries on society. This international meeting will be held in Helsinki, Finland from 22-23 May 2014 at the Parliament Annex.

Entitled “Strong Libraries, Strong Societies : Impact of Libraries on Society”, this President’s Meeting will explore the key role of libraries in the knowledge society and how they exert an effect on it. The IFLA Trend Report and effects of trends on libraries will be discussed.

The program includes distinguished speakers representing many viewpoints and interests. The aim is to advance the important role that libraries play in societal development at both the local and international level. The results of the meeting will help to inform the formation of such policies and practices that will serve to strengthen the impact of libraries on society in many parts of the world.

This meeting will be an exciting and rewarding experience for all participants. As IFLA President I look forward to welcoming you. Join us for stimulating two days of discussion and reflection, led by several renowned speakers from around the world. On Saturday 24th of May there will also be an opportunity to participate in study tours of various lengths and interests, where you can see some examples of Finnish libraries first hand.
