General Information

Participation fee and what it includes

The participation fee for the seminar will be 100€. The fee includes the academic and cultural programme, accommodation, public transport tickets and three meals a day.

Freelancing at the seminar

Students interested to join the conference as freelancers can do so if they arrange their own accommodation and food. ISHA Helsinki can assist you with this and give you a recommendation for suitable accommodation. In other words, you are not required to attend all the academic programmes and don’t have to pay the participation fee, but have to pay for the accommodation, tickets etc and food yourself.

Covid-19 regulations

We strongly recommend having a vaccination passport when arriving in Finland and attending the seminar. You can check out the latest news regarding Finland’s guidelines for border traffic during the pandemic on Raja and Finentry.

The regulations and recommendations in Uusimaa (Southern Region of Finland where Helsinki is situated) can be found on the website of HUS.

How to get to Helsinki?

You can get creative and plan a road trip via Sweden, Germany or Estonia and eventually take a ship to Helsinki, but, however, flying to Helsinki is probably the easiest and least cumbersome option. Check out your connections, compare the prices of different companies and also consider making use of connections from the neighbouring countries and cities.

Buying public transport tickets in Helsinki:

You cannot purchase tickets in public transport vehicles: you need to have a ticket when you enter a vehicle. For buying a ticket, you can either use the HSL mobile app, a ticket machine at the stations or bus/tram stops or a shop that sells them. If you buy a paper ticket, you need to validate it in the ticket reader when entering a vehicle for the first time. When entering a bus, you will always have to show your ticket: either show a paper ticket to the ticket reader or show the mobile ticket on your HSL app to the driver. On other transportation vehicles, you don’t need to show your ticket when entering – only if you get inspected by a ticket inspector and when validating your ticket.

We recommend using the HSL app for your tickets and to find out your connections. The app also conveniently tells you which zones you will need the ticket for and you can buy your ticket easily. Remember to always have enough battery on your phone to open the app if you get inspected or you are using a bus where you need to show the valid ticket to the driver!

You can find more information on how public transport works in Helsinki and the surrounding areas on the HSL website. For example, the airport locates in Vantaa in C-zone, whereas Helsinki is situated within the AB-travel zone. This means, when arriving from the airport to Helsinki, you will need an ABC-zone ticket for your travel.

During the seminar, we will provide AB-zone public transportation tickets for the participants from Tuesday morning to Sunday morning!

Accommodation and how to get there:

The accommodation for the participants will be arranged in Cheap Sleep hostel. The easiest way to get to the hostel from the airport is to take a bus: either number 615 or 617. More ways on how to get to the hostel you can find on their website.
