KSI Board

Are you wondering who are the ones working behind the screen wheeling KSI’s activities? It is the amazing teamwork by board members to thank for. Let’s learn more about KSI team from their friends and themselves!

Shirajum Monira Erina (Chair)

Hello! I’m a 25 year old experimental particle physicist originally from Dhaka, Bangladesh; a small green country located in South Asia. I represent KSI as the chair and had been actively involved in forming its infrastructure and designer of the very website you are browsing through at the moment. I also represent UH as an international student ambassador, helping university in marketing and international students with useful information. I have a wide range of hobbies i.e. martial art (Shotokan), singing Bangla classical and folk music, salsa, bharatnatyam, painting and the list can go on. I love reading books and prefer to be surrounded by people. Gardening is my passion which I kinda miss in Finland since it’s difficult to grow plants here during winter. Autumn is my favorite season in Finland for its colorful appearance and I survive Finnish winter by disappearing from everything for short periods of hibernation. I’m an all time lover of coffee and tea, chocolate and red velvet cake. If you have some space in your friends list, I can always be the next one!

Jami Rönkkö (Vice-chair)

Jami is a fourth year theoretical physicist, and originally from Hämeenlinna, a smaller city which sits a bit north of Helsinki. Calm by nature, his trademark move is a golden smile, which often follows a spout of confused looks. Though forgetful, he’s a trustworthy guy and getting to know him should be a priority. Jami’s time is best spent in a sauna, and he laments the fact that he can’t study in one (books and electronics can’t handle the heat like he does). As an avid member of both KSI and Resonanssi, he contributes much of his time to them. And if getting fit is your thing, you should buddy up with him on a trip to the Kumpula Unisport. Spot him and things might just heat up in the sauna afterwards. This guy has your back.

Vitoria Barin Pacela (Secretary)

Vitória, 20, is a Millennium Youth Camp alumna studying computer science, with minors in physics and method sciences. She is also an undergraduate researcher at the Accelerator Laboratory. Originally from Brazil, she doesn’t play football as often as people expect, neither does she dance samba. Nonetheless, she’s a big fan of martial arts and of Unisport group trainings, be sure to go there with her. She heard about KSI right when she came to Finland, back to fall 2015, and immediately decided to join the organization, first serving as the treasurer. As opposed to ducks, Vitória leaves Finland during the summers and goes back there for the winters. Probably not very clever. No niin. As a machine learning enthusiast, she likes to apply it to high energy physics, as she recently practiced in the wonderful times she’s had at CERN. Go grab a coffee with her and be ready to learn some words in Portuguese too.

 Eetu Rimo (Informer)

Eetu Rimo, 21, is a third year meteorology student. He was born in Rovaniemi, Lapland and has lived most of his life in a small town called Muhos that sits some 600 kilometres north of Helsinki. Since the southbound winds blew him to Helsinki, Eetu has been actively involved with student organisations and international students. He is the informer of both Kumpula Science International and Synop as well as an active in Resonanssi and ESN Uni Helsinki. His experiences have granted him a wide knowledge of university events and it’s been said that he knows more about events aimed at international students than anyone at the Kumpula campus. Eetu might seem quiet at first but once you start a conversation with him, you find that he is very talkative for a Finn. When he is really excited about the topic, words come pouring out of his mouth faster than bullets from a machine gun. Eetu has wide variety of interests, most notably severe weather phenomena, aeroplanes and Motorsports. He is fluent in Finnish and English and also has minor skills in Swedish and French. And if you like training or playing sports games, be sure to team up with him and go to Kumpula Unisport. He is a guy you definitely want to be friends with.

Neja Sirc (Treasurer)

Ola future friends, I’m Neja, a 21 years old Slovenian living in the cold north. I have a bunch of funny stories so I am your go to person when you feel depressed and lonely. I am a chemistry student and undergraduate researcher in Biomedicum. I enjoy trying new things and I’m always in for a party or other crazy and exciting events. Smile is a solution for all the troubles. Viva la vida!

She also had been with KSI from the beginning of its journey and represents international university staff members in KSI.

Victor Mäki (General member)

Hello! My name is Victor Mäki and I`m a physics major studying mathematics and computer science as my minors. Originally from western parts of Finland but been living in Helsinki since fall 2014. I am doing my M.Sc in Meteorology so I really often get question how is the weather going to be and when it is the best time to have summer vacation. The funny thing is that I don’t always even look the forecast to be honest. Currently I am more oriented to research. On my free time I do a lot of sports.
