STAFF CHANGES

The following staff retired in 2017: Lis Auvinen, university lecturer of Swedish; Pia Lappalainen, university lecturer of Swedish; Leena Syvähuoko, lecturer of French; Tom Toepfer, lecturer of English; Teresia Ijäs, Swedish translator and Eija Ådjers, secretary to the director.

Language Services recruited the following Swedish translators: Marjukka Heinonen (25 January 2017–), Irene Kvarnström (1 September 2017–), Ronja Nordman (5 December 2017–) and Stina Wikman (15 January–31 August 2017).

Speech communication teachers Katariina Hollanti and Tuuli Nilsson transferred to the Language Centre from the Faculty of Behavioural Sciences (now Faculty of Educational Sciences) and the Faculty of Arts.

AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

Language revisor Lisa Muszynski defended her doctoral dissertation in social sciences at the University of Helsinki on 20 May 2017.

English lecturer Graham Wood defended his doctoral dissertation in social sciences at the University of Helsinki on 23 May 2017.

Seija Korhonen, director of Language Services at the Language Centre, was made Knight of the Order of the Lion of Finland by the President of the Republic of Finland on 4 December 2017.
