Teaching

My teaching philosophy

The primary purpose of my teaching is to facilitate students’ learning so that they can critically, creatively and co-operatively apply economic concepts, models, and ideas to current policy issues and to their life and be positive agents of change towards a more socially and environmentally sustainable society.

In my classes, I use the flipped learning method. I have documented my experience with the flipped classroom in Lombardini, C., Lakkala, M., & Muukkonen, H. (2018). The impact of the flipped classroom in a principles of microeconomics course: Evidence from a quasi-experiment with two flipped classroom designs. International Review of Economics Education, 29, 14-28. doi:10.1016/j.iree.2018.01.003.

I was recently featured in a video by the European Economic Association on my experience with the flipped classroom. You can find the video at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0i1z2wJg69I
