Welcome

I am an Associate Professor of Philosophy at the University of Helsinki. Until the end of 2022 I will be leading a 5-year research project funded by the European Research Council. I am also affiliated with the University of Southern California, where I spend half of each fall semester teaching at the Department of Philosophy.

Before moving to my native Finland, I was an Associate Professor (with tenure) at the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor. Before Michigan I was at Oxford, where I got a BPhil and DPhil (2010), and was a Fitzjames Research Fellow at Merton College. I am an Editor of Philosophy and Phenomenological Research.

Though I mainly work in epistemology, my philosophical interests are broad. At the moment I am writing a book for Oxford University Press that aims to formulate my big picture in epistemology, bringing together work I have published in various articles. I’ve enjoyed teaching environmental ethics, and love thinking about everything from metaphysics to structural injustice.

When I’m not doing philosophy, I spend time with my 2 children, try to play the ukulele, worry about the state of the world, and as an antidote find some time for physical pursuits like climbing, hiking, and skiing.
