Tämä on viimeinen blogipostauksemme, joten haluamme kiittää kaikkia lukijoitamme! Viimeisen postauksemme kunniaksi haluamme antaa kaikille mahdollisuuden lähettää terveisiä lukijoille.
Ensimmäisenä olisi Jennyn terveiset teille:
”On ollut hienoa olla mukana Vehkalahti-projektissa. Kun vierailimme muiden kurssilaisten kanssa ensimmäisen kerran Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseolla tammikuussa, olin vaikuttunut siitä, miten paljon kiinnostavaa esineistöä niin pieneen museoon on saatu kerättyä ja kuinka kaunis, vanhojen aikojen perintöä huokuva tunnelma museossa oli. Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseo ja muut sen kaltaiset pienet kotiseutumuseot ovat erittäin arvokkaita kulttuuriperinnön säilyttäjiä. Kuitenkin, Vehkalahden museossa on tarvetta uudistuksille, jotta vanha ja arvokas kulttuuriperintö saadaan paremmin esille, ja jotta esineet saavat tilaisuuden kertoa kiinnostavat tarinansa sen sijaan, että ne vain mykkinä tuijottaisivat vierailijaa. Siksipä juuri on ollut hienoa päästä blogin välityksellä kertomaan muiden ryhmien upeista suunnitelmista museon uudistamiseksi. Toivon, että museon uudistus saadaan toteutettua, ja että lopputulos on yhtä onnistunut kuin millaisen kuvan ryhmien suunnitelmista sai.
Toivotan myös blogin lukijoille hyvää kevättä! Pysykää terveinä ja muistakaa museoiden tekemä tärkeä työ: vierailkaa museoissa sitten kun tilanne on taas normaali, ja sitä ennen käyttäkää museoiden tarjoamia vaihtoehtoja vierailuille, esimerkiksi virtuaalikierroksia joita joidenkin museoiden nettisivuilta löytyy, ja muistakaa seurata Haminan kaupungin museoiden Facebook-sivua.”
Seuraavana olisi Miiran terveiset:
”Kiitos kaikille lukijoille, tämä projekti ja blogin kirjoittaminen ovat olleet upea kokemus minulle! Ennen tätä projektia en ollut koskaan kirjoittanut blogia ja olin vain kerran aikaisemmin käynyt Haminassa. Olen oppinut niin paljon uutta tässä projektissa! Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseo on upea kulttuurihistoriallinen kokonaisuus jo rakennuksesta lähtien. Se on kuin pieni aarreaitta! Kotiseutumuseoilla on voimaa, jota suuret museot eivät voi saavuttaa: ne ovat niin lähellä yhteisöä kuin museo voi olla. Toivonkin, että tämä projekti antaa Vehkalahden yhteisölle yhtä paljon kuin minulle! Upeaa olisi, jos Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseosta tulisi yhteisön keskus, joka pitäisi yllä paikallista identiteettiä ja muistaisi sen menneisyyttä. Historia auttaa meitä ymmärtämään paremmin itseämme!
Blogimme ei olisi mitään ilman lukijoitaan, joten suuri kiitos kuuluu teille! Myös minä toivotan teille hyvää kevättä ja hyvää terveyttä! Kunhan tilanne normalisoituu, vierailkaa Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseossa – ja muissakin museoissa! Vierailut tulevat aikanaan tarpeeseen! Ja jos tuntuu siltä, ettei millään jaksaisi odottaa, käykää kurkkaamassa Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseon virtuaalinäyttely. Facebookista löytyy myös kulttuurinnälkäisille hyviä ryhmiä, käykää kurkkaamassa esimerkiksi ’Vinkataan kulttuuria kotisohville – Pelastetaan toisemme tylsyydeltä!’ -ryhmä!”
Lisäksi halusimme antaa jokaiselle ryhmälle mahdollisuuden lähettää teille terveiset näin lopuksi. Ensimmäisenä yhteisöjen voimaannuttamisen ryhmä lähettäisi heidän terveisensä tuloksinaan:
”Eli meidän ryhmämme haastatteli useita ihmisiä eri taustoista, jotka kokevat jonkinlaisen yhteyden Vehkalahden museoon. Vaikka tuloksemme olivat suhteellisen odotettuja yleismaailmallisesti, oli niissä ennalta-arvaamattomiakin osa-alueita, tosin nämä olivat erittäin yksityiskohtaisia ja paikoitellen henkilökohtaisia. Kuitenkin vallitseva mielipide on, että museon potentiaalia ei ole onnistuttu ottamaan käyttöön tai mahdollisesti vain pieneltä murto-osalta. Toivomuksena oli tuoda paikallishistoriaa esille ja osaksi elämää pääasiallisesti aineettoman kulttuuriperinnön muodossa, kuten paikallisten pelimannien musiikkina. Lisäksi toiveena oli luoda parempia ja laajempia mahdollisuuksia sukukokouksille, joka vaalisi ihmisten omaa perintöä sekä yhteyttä alueeseen.”
Ja sitten olisi vihreän kädenjäljen ryhmän terveiset teille:
”Tervehdys GreenHandprint -ryhmältä! Työskentely on sujunut poikkeusoloista huolimatta hyvin, sillä ryhmämme työn valmistelu ei varsinaisesti enää edellyttänyt kolmatta vierailua Vehkalahdelle. Toivottavasti pääsemme kuitenkin vierailemaan museon uudistetussa näyttelyssä mahdollisimman pian!”
Näyttelysisällöstä ja virtuaalinäyttelystä vastanneen ryhmän terveiset teille kuuluvat näin:
”Tämä projekti on ollut todella mielenkiintoinen ja yksi sen parhaista puolista oli se, että saimme työskennellä oikean museon kanssa ja tehdä oikeaa näyttelytyötä. Suurin haasteemme on on ollut välimatkat meidän ja museon välillä, joten jouduimme työskentelemään esinelistojen ja kuvien pohjalta. Tietenkin olisi ollut helpompaa, jos olisimme voineet vierailla museossa useammin. Mutta tämä projekti antoi meille mahdollisuuden päästä tutustumaan, miten museo työskentelee sen esineiden ja näyttelyiden kanssa.
Tämä kurssi antoi meille mahdollisuuden tutustua Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseoon, joka on mielestämme monin tavoin hyvin uniikki ja ainutlaatuinen. Oli mielenkiintoista oppia lisää kotiseutumuseoista kuten myös museotyön eri puolista. Kurssi oli hyvin tasapainoinen ja käsitteli monia mielenkiintoisia teemoja. Oli valitettavaa, että kontaktitunnit piti keskeyttää ennen aikojaan koronavirustilanteen takia, mikä teki myös ryhmätyöskentelystä vaikeampaa. Viruksen aiheuttama tilanne pakotti museot ympäri maailmaa ajattelemaan uusia keinoja viestiäkseen yleisönsä kanssa. Mutta toivotaan, että jos ei tänä kesänä, niin sitä seuraavana kesänä Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseolla voitaisiin järjestää tapahtumia
Olisi ollut mukavaa päästä työskentelemään enemmän museon kanssa ja päästä kunnolla käsiksi asioihin ja esineisiin. Ryhmämme löysi useita keinoja, joilla lähestyä annettua tehtävää uudistaa ja luoda uudelleen määrätyt kolme tilaa museossa. Haimme ideoita kansanperinteestä, paikallisesta historiasta, olemassa olevista esineistä ja kulttuurihistoriasta yleensä. Kaiken kaikkiaan projekti auttoi meitä ymmärtämään tämän tyyppisen projektin eri puolia, erityisesti voimavarojen kannalta ryhmän sisällä ja muiden ryhmien, jotka käsittelivät eri teemoja, kesken. Saa nähdä, missä määrin museo tulee käyttämään annettuja ehdotuksia ja ideoita.
Jälkikäteen katsottuna kaikkein palkitsevin osa on ollut, kuinka sen sanoisi, kaiken todenmukaisuus. Pitkät etäisyydet, kontaktituntien puute, ryhmän jäsenen menettäminen ja päivittäin muuttuva koronatilanne. Mutta käytännön tason museotyön tekeminen, tilanteen mukaan eläminen ja siitä kaiken irti ottaminen, uskon että se opetti meitä paljon. Toivon, että museotyö ei ole ihan näin melskeistä aina. Mutta aina tulee yllätyksiä, kuten missä tahansa elämäntilanteessa tai työssä, ja nyt olemme valmiimpia siihen. Toivomme vain, ettemme tuhlanneet turhaa energiaamme tällä edestakaisella liikkeellä ja ett meidän työpanoksellamme on oikeaa arvoa Vehkalahdelle.”
Kokoelmapoliittisen ohjelman laatineen ryhmän terveiset teille kuuluu näin:
”Ryhmämme toivoo museolle onnea ja menestystä jatkossakin. Olisi hyvä, jos blogi voisi viestintävälineenä yhdistää yhteisöä. Toivottavasti Haminan kaupungin museoille ja Vehkalahden museolle pystyttäisiin jatkossa perustamaan oma blogi. Siihen voisi toivon mukaan lähettää artikkeleita yhteisistä tapahtumista, jotka tahdotaan säilyttää jälkipolville. Siinä voisi julkaista myös blogikirjoituksia, joissa käsitellään myös kokoelmaesineitä, jotta niihin liittyvät tarinat avautuvat museoyleisölle herättäen muistoja ja keskustelua.”
Ja viimeisenä, muttei vähäisimpänä, olisi yleisön osallistamisen ryhmän terveiset heidän tulostensa muodossa:
”Tapasimme alun perin helmikuussa ja keskustelimme ehdotetusta strategiasta luodaksemme Vehkalahden kesäjuhlat, jotka olisi järjestetty viikonloppuna kesällä 2020. Kaavailimme siitä kesän juhlintaa ja museon vuosijuhlia. Juhlat olisi järjestetty museossa sekä sen pihalla, ja aktiviteettia oli suunniteltu kahden päivän edestä. Keskustelimme kuljetusten järjestämisestä Haminan keskustasta Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseolle, ja ohjelman järjestämisestä niin, että vierailijat olisivat voineet viettää koko päivän paikan päällä. Ongelmana oli lähinnä juoksevan veden ja käymäläfasiliteettien puute paikan päällä, mutta toivoimme, että ruokatarjonta olisi voitu hoitaa ruoka-autolla ja että paikalliset yritykset olisivat olleet valmiita hoitamaan ruokapalvelun tapahtumassa, sekä että olisimme voineet käyttää hyväksi paikalla jo olevia ulkovessoja. Teimme tarvittavan selvityksen mahdollisista yhteistyökumppaneista ja käsityöläisistä alueella.
Ryhmänä määrittelimme yhdessä tehtävämme – etsiä ja tarjota ideoita tapahtumasisällölle, joka toisi ihmisiä Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseoon. Maalikuusta 2020 lähtien maailma on muuttunut, mikä on osoittautunut haasteeksi museo- ja kulttuuriperintöalalle kokonaisuudessaan. Ideoiden keksimiseen keskittyneessä Skype-tapaamisessamme päätimme, että paras tapa edetä olisi se, ettemme luottaisi karanteenin loppumiseen, mutta sen sijaan suunnittelisimme tapahtuman, joka hyödyttäisi museota tulevaisuudessa, pähkinänkuoressa – loisimme ideoita osallistamissisältöön museon nettisivuille. Haluaisimme myös luoda Facebook-sivun, jolla kaikkia tapahtumia voitaisiin mainostaa. Tällä hetkellä Haminan kaupungin museoilla on yhteinen Facebook-sivu, mutta Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseon mainostamiseksi pitäisi olla oma sivu, se helpottaisi yleisön kohdistamista museon lähistöllä avulla asuviin ihmisiin ja vähentäisi Facebookin mainosten kuluja.
Olemme luoneet posterin museolle esiteltäväksi projektistamme. Tutkimme mahdollisuuksia järjestää työpajoja kudonnasta, merisolmujen tekemisesta, oluen panemisesta (aikuisille) ja kansantanssista. Kaikki nämä työpajat tulisi mukauttaa virtuaaliselle alustalle ja tarjota yleisölle online-streeminä tai videoina YouTubessa. Loimme myös tapoja olla vuorovaikutuksessa nykytaiteen yhteisön kanssa ja osanottokutsun museolle, jotta ympäristötaiteilijat voisivat esitellä töitään Vehkalahdessa. Olemme koonneet tämän sisällön tiedostoksi museokuraattorille käytännön toteuttamista varten ja toivomme, että vaikka me emme pääsisi käymään Vehkalahdessa vähään aikaan, meidän työmme ei ole turhaa ja että jotkin ideamme saavuttaisivat yleisön tulevaisuudessa”
Kiitos kaikille ryhmille terveisten lähettämisestä! Näin lopuksi haluaisimme vielä hiukan kertoa projektin etenemisestä tästä eteenpäin:
Tarkoituksena oli, että olisimme tulleet esittelemään projektin tuloksia Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseolle, mutta koska tilanne 2019-nCov-viruksen kanssa on tällä hetkellä niin kriittinen, jouduimme perumaan tapahtuman. Sen sijaan jokainen projektin ryhmä tulee luomaan oman ryhmänsä tuloksista posterin, jotka tulevat esille Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseon näyttelyyn, kunhan museot aukeavat. Toivoisimme, että tulisitte tutustumaan postereihin paikan päälle ja kertomaan palautteenne projektin tuloksista. On myös mahdollista, että posterit jaetaan verkossa, jos tämä poikkeustilanne pitkittyy valtavasti. Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseon näyttelyuudistus olisi tarkoitus toteuttaa projektin tulosten pohjalta lähivuosina.

“It has been great to be involved in the Vehkalahti project. When we visited first time at the Vehkalahti local museum with other course members in January, I was impressed how much there was interesting objects in so tiny museum, and how there was so beautiful, old-time atmosphere in the museum. The Vehkalahti local museum and other tiny local museums are very valuable, because they keep cultural heritage. However, there is the need for reform in the Vehkalahti museum, to make valuable cultural heritage more visible, and to make objects tell their interesting stories. And that’s why it has been great to get to tell about the great reform plans of the other groups. I hope that the reform of the museum be realized, and that the result will be as successful as the image of the groups’ plans got.
I also wish you readers a happy spring! Stay healthy and remember the work which is done by museums: visit museums then when the situation will be again normal, and before that use alternatives that museums offer, for example virtual exhibitions, and remember follow the Facebook-site of Hamina city museums.”
Next, there are Miira’s greetings:
“Thank you for all the readers, this project and the writing of the blog has been a great experience for me! Before this project I had never wrote a blog and I had visited Hamina only once before. I have learned so much new in this project! Vehkalahti Local Museum is great cultural historic entity ever since from its building. It is almost like little treasury! Local museums has the power which large museums cannot have: they are as close as possible for a museum to be for their community. I do wish that our project will give Vehkalahti community as much as it has given to me! It would be great if Vehkalahti Local museum would turn out be the centre of the community which would maintain local identity and commemorate its past. History helps us to understand ourselves better!
Our blog wouldn’t be anything without its readers, so you deserve a big thank-you! I do also wish you good spring and good health! In addition, we wanted to give a chance for all groups to send their greetings for you lastly. At first there will be community empowerment group sending their greetings as their results for you:
”So, our group interviewed several people from different backgrounds, who feel to have something like connection with Vehkalahti Local Museum. Even though our results were relatively expected worldwidely, there were also unexpected parts, although these were extremely particular and in places personal. Nevertheless, the prevalent opinion was that the potential of the museum isn’t managed to deploy or potentially only from little fraction. The desire was to bring forth local history and make it part of life mainly through intangible heritage, like as music of local folk musicians. In addition, there was a wish to create better and greater opportunities for family reunions, which would cherish people’s own legacy and connection to the area.”
And then there would be the greetings of Green handprint group for you:
“Greetings for all from GreenHandprint Group! Our work has gone great despite the exceptional situation, because of the preparation of our group’s work didn’t require third visit to Vehkalahti anymore. However, hopefully we get to visit in the renewed exhibition of the museum as soon as possible!”
Exhibition content and virtual exhibition group sends you this kind of greetings:
“The project has been really interesting and one of the best thing is that we got a chance to work with a real museum and to do real museum exhibition work. The biggest challenge has been the distance between us and the museum, so we had to work with item lists and pictures. Of course it would have been easier if we could have visit the museum more often. But the project gave us a possibility to get a little sight of how the museum works with it’s items and exhibitions.
The course gave an opportunity to get to know the Vehkalahti museum which I think is in many ways very unique and special. It was interesting to learn more about local museums as well as of different sides of museum work. The course was very well-rounded and covered many interesting themes. It was unfortunate that contact-lessons were cut short due to the corona virus situation and it also made groupwork more challenging. The situation that the virus created, forced museums all around the world to think new ways to communicate with audiences. But let’s hope that if not this summer, then the next there will be some events held in Vehkalahti museum.
It would have been nice to get to work more with the museum and really get our hands-on things and objects. Our group found several methods with which to approach the given task of revising and recreating the three designated spaces in the museum. We drew ideas from folklore, local history, existing artefacts, and cultural history in general. All in all, the project helped to grasp the different aspects of this type of project, especially resourcingwise within our own group as well as the groups handling tasks with other themes. It remains to be seen to which extent the museum will utilize the given suggestions and ideas.
In retrospect one of the most rewarding part has been the, how should I say, reality of it all. Long distances, no contact lessons, losing a team member and corona situation changing day-to-day. But being there in the practical level of museum work, having to live with the situation and making the most of it, I think it has taught a great deal. I hope museum work is not quite as turbulent as this. But there will always be elements of surprise, just as any real-life situation or work, and we are now readier for it. Let’s just hope we didn’t waste all our energy stepping back and forth and our efforts are of real value for Vehkalahti.”
Collection policy group’s greetings for you goes like this:
“Our group wish museum luck and success also in the future. It could be good if a blog could connect a community. Hopefully could be set up an own blog for Hamina city museums and Vehkalahti museum. Articles on joint events, which are to be preserved for future generations, could be sent to it. It could also publish blog posts dealing with collection objects so that related stories are opened to the museum public, evoking memories and discussion.”
And last – but not least – there is audience engagement group’s greetings for you in the shape of their results:
”Originally we met in February and discussed the proposed strategy to create engagement content for the Summer Festival at Vehkalahti that would take place one weekend in the summer of 2020. We envisioned it as a celebration of summer and the anniversary of the museum. The celebration should have taken place in the museum, in the courtyard and activities were planned around a time frame of two days. We talked about having a shuttle service arranged from the centre of the town to take visitors to Vehkalahti, a program arranged for the guests to spend a full day at the site. The main issue was of course the lack of running water and WC facilities at the site, but we were hopeful that food could be arranged by food-truck services and local companies willing to cater to the event, as well as taking advantage of the eco-bathroom facilities already present at the site. We have made the necessary research of possible partners and artisans in the region.
As a group we came up with a definition of our task – to research and provide content ideas to an event that will bring people to the museum at Vehkalahti. Since March 2020 the world has changed which proved to be a challenge to the museum and cultural heritage industry as a whole. In a brainstorming session our group had over Skype we decided that the best way to proceed would be not to keep hoping that the quarantine would end, but to devise a program that would benefit the museum in the future, in a nutshell – creating ideas for engagement content for the museums webpage. We would also like to see a Facebook Page setup so that all the events could be advertised there. At the moment there is a page that exists for the City Museum of Hamina, but to promote the Vehkalahti Museum there should be a page specific to the site, this will ease audience targeting for the people who live around the museum and considerably decrease any marketing budgets on Facebook Ads.
We have developed a poster for the museum to display about our project. We researched possibilities of hosting workshops on weaving, making nautical knots, beer-making (for adults) and folk-dancing. All these workshops would have to be adapted to the virtual platform and presented to the public via online streams or videos on the YouTube Platform. We also devised ways to interact with the contemporary arts community and provided a Call for participation for the museum to make sure that some landscape artist could display their work in Vehkalahti. We have packaged this content into a file for the museum Curator to take into action and we hope that even if we don’t get to go to Vehkalahti anytime soon, our efforts will not be in vain and some of our ideas will reach the public in the future.”
Thank you for all groups for sending their regards! At last, we want to tell you a little bit about how this project will go on from this on:
Our purpose was to come and present results of the project at Vehkalahti Local Museum, but because the situation with the 2019-nCov virus is so acute right now, we had to cancel the event. Instead of, all groups will create a poster from results of their group, and these will be come out in the exhibition of Vehkalahti Local Museum once museums are re-opened. We would wish that you could come to explore posters and tell your feedback about results of the project on site (once this is possible). It is also a possibility that poster will be shared online if this exceptional situation prolongs vastly. The renewal of Vehkalahti Local Museum’s exhibition would be intended to be executed on the grounds of results of the project in few years.
