NaPPI info and training sessions in August

Welcome to the information session on Plant Phenotyping!

The National Plant Phenotyping Infrastructure (NaPPI) at the University of Helsinki Viikki campus is up and running!

NaPPI1_Aug2015 NaPPI2_Aug2015

This infrastructure is based on Photon Systems Instruments (www.psi.cz) PlantScreen technologies consisting of imaging tools for thermal, fluorescence and visual analysis of plants in combination with their automated management, watering and transportation. In the Viikki campus greenhouses there are two analysis units, one for small plants of up to 50 cm height and one for large crop/tree plants of 1,2 meter height. With these tools we hope to facilitate fundamental and applied plant research not only at the Viikki campus but in collaboration with any interested plant research site in Finland.

An information session about the NaPPI tools will be organised on Thursday 27th of August 2015, from 9.15-15 in lecture room 3, Viikki B building (Latokartanonkaari 7-9), presented by PSI representative Dr. Klára Panzarová.

The information session aims to give an introduction into the Plant Screen system and to the theoretical background of the individual imaging stations, and presents examples of the use and interpretation of the data with examples of real research applications.

Presentation will be divided into 4 parts:
1.    General introduction – overview about the PlantScreen System. Understanding the workflow of the system and general settings of the system.
2.    Chlorophyll fluorescence imaging station – theoretical background, data acquisition, processing and analysis. Examples of the use and interpretation of the data
3.    RGB Imaging station – theoretical background, data acquisition, processing and analysis. Examples of the use and interpretation of the data
4.    Thermal Imaging station – theoretical background, data acquisition, processing and analysis. Examples of the use and interpretation of the data

There will be two additional user training sessions on Friday 28th and Monday 31st of August 2015, from 0900-1200, in seminar room 4, Viikki Info building Korona (Viikinkaari 11), followed by visits to the PlantScreen units and opportunities for discussions with the PSI representative Klára Panzarová.

The theoretical user training aims to give a brief introduction of the available tools and a deeper understanding of the theoretical background of the Fluorometric measurements.
