Arriving to the Conference Venue

The Conference Venue

The old information that the conference would be held at House of Sciences (Tieteiden talo) is no longer accurate. Instead, the conference venue will be at Haaga-Helia (University of Applied Sciences) in Pajuniityntie 11, Helsinki.

From the airport to the city centre

Most of you will be arriving to Finland through the Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. There are three transportation options between the airport and the city centre:

  1. The Finnair City Bus commutes between the airport and the Helsinki central railway station every 20 minutes from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m. The bus leaves from platform 10 just outside terminal 2, stops by platform 1 in front of terminal 1 and arrives to Elielinaukio bus stops just besides the central railway station. Travel time is about 30 minutes and the ticket costs 6,30€.
    See timetables here.
  2. A public bus no. 615 commutes also between the airport and the city centre every 15 minutes or so. The bus leaves from platform 21 in front of terminal 2 and arrives to platform 3 in Rautatientori, which is located on the other side of the central railway station than Elielinaukio. Travel time is approx. 45 minutes and a single ticket costs 5,00€.
    See timetables here.
  3. A taxi from the airport to Helsinki city centre costs around 50€.

From the city centre to the conference venue

The conference will be held in one of the campuses of Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences (address: Pajuniityntie 11), located in Haaga just outside the city centre. The easiest way to reach the conference venue is by bus.

  1. There are many bus routes you can use, but we have chosen here the easiest option. The bus no. 63 leaves from Elielinaukio (dock 24) every 10-20 minutes between 5.30 a.m. and 23.40 p.m. The bus stop closest to the venue is “Laajasuontie”. All the buses have a screen showing the next stop, but you can also ask the driver where to hop off.  After stepping out of the bus, walk straight about 300 m along the road Nuijamiestentie to the same direction as the bus goes and you should see the Hotel Haaga, which is connected to the conference venue. The entrance to the venue for the conference is directly to the left from the sign. Buses going back to the city centre stop by a bus stop located on the other side of the Nuijamiestentie road about 100 metres away from the same stop at which the bus coming from the centre stops. The bus ride from city centre to Haaga takes around 20 minutes.
    See timetables here.
  2. A taxi ride to Haaga from city centre costs around €25.

You can also use Journey Planner (Reittiopas), which gives the most accurate connections, times and directions (we still suggest you use the bus no. 63!). There is also a mobile site and some mobile apps for it (Andropas for Android; ReittiGPS for iOs; Reitit for Windows Phone).

Tickets

Tickets to the public transportation system can be acquired in many forms and many ways. You can buy single tickets (à 3,00€) from the bus driver. A single ticket is valid for 60 minutes from the time of purchase. You can also buy a day ticket for 1-7 days (3 days à 16€, 4 days à 20€) from the blue ticket machines, which can be found from the main bus stops (e.g. Elielinaukio), or from R-kiosks around the city centre. The day tickets are valid in all forms of the Helsinki public transportation system (incl. buses, trams, metro, local train and the ferry to Suomenlinna) for the chosen amount of days, including night fare hours, starting from the time of purchase.
