This is a quick guide to WebOodi for students. It is essential for the reader to understand the difference between instruction/examinations and courses (study units). For all instruction and examinations, there is a corresponding course that has a permanent code, degree requirements and an organisation that is responsible for the study unit. Students can sign up for instruction and examinations, but their personal study plans consist of courses.
Functions in WebOodi:
- Logging in and out
- Check your personal data
- Registering for instruction/examinations
- My Studies
- The feedback system
- Weboodi settings
Logging in and out
You don’t need a separate user identity for WebOodi in particular, but can use your existing university user permit. You can report technical problems with login etc. to Weboodiemail@example.com.
Log in: Click Log in in the main menu, type your user id and password and click Submit. After logging in your personal page will be shown, and your user specific options will appear in the menu toolbar on the left.
Log out: Click Exit in the main menu. WebOodi will notify you that your log out was successful.
Check your personal data
As a student, you are responsible for your contact information and other personal information to be correct. If your address changes you should also notify the student magazine (Ylioppilaslehti), student health care (YTHS), the university library, and the Centre for Student Financial Aid.
In the main menu, go to Other functions and click Personal data. You can change the data with Edit. If there are errors in sections you cannot edit, please contact the Student Services.
Registering for instruction/examinations
Begin by clicking Search on the left-hand toolbar under Instruction/Courses. You can use the name of the course, a part of the name, course code, type, teaching organisation, time interval, or any combination of these as your search criteria. Initiate the search by pressing Search for instruction and examinations. As a result you get those, and only those, teaching events that match with all the search constraints you have given so often the best way is not to give more than one or two criteria. The results appear as a list below the search criteria. Locate the instruction or examination from the list and press Go to registration. As the details of the instruction or examination appear, tick the wanted Reg. choice box. Be sure to type all extra information in the text field(s) when requested. Press Save to save the registration. The system informs whether the registration was successful or not. You can also cancel the registration during the registration period if the canceling function is not explicitly disabled.
Note that you can only register in WebOodi for the instruction or examinations that the faculty or department has published in WebOodi. There may still be some teaching that cannot be found in WebOodi.
You can also search for instruction or examinations through Course catalogues under Instruction/Courses. Here you can find a list of faculties and other organisations giving instruction. When you choose an organisation (by clicking its name or the plus sign next to it) you get to see its suborganisations. Note that different organisations have hierarchies of varying depth and width. The Show instruction and examinations links show all teaching within the academic year arranged by the corresponding organisation shown on the left side of these links. The Show courses link on the right leads to study units of these same organisations. For all instruction, examinations and study requirements of a specific subject click the name of a catalogue (e.g. English Philology, 2011-12) which will link you directly to a set of interleaves containing all the valid information concerning the academic subject within the ongoing academic year.
In My studies a student can examine and modify his/her Registrations, Completed studies, Failed studies and order an unofficial e-mail transcript of their studies.
Functions under Registrations:
Reg. data shows you the status and other particularities of your registration.
Show hidden shows the registrations that you have previously hidden.
Hide hides the registration. NB! This is not the same as removing or cancelling a registration.
Delete deletes the registration. This can be done only if the teaching organisation has decided to allow removals, and if your registration has not yet been confirmed at the department. When your grade has been registered but the course sign-up remains visible in WebOodi you can hide the registration.
Functions under Completed studies:
Under Completed studies you can see all your completed studies along with awarded credits, completion dates, grades and the name of the acceptor. The sum of all your credits is shown on the bottom of the page. By clicking the code of a certain completed study, you get to see the general information of the corresponding course.
The Show credits button shows your completed credits in study points (as opposed to the old study weeks = credit units)
Functions under Failed courses and expired credits:
Here you can see a list of your studies that have expired, have been improved or that you have failed. In general studies expire in 10 years.
Functions under Transcript:
You can order a digitally signed transcript and/or a study certificate. More information on transcripts here: https://guide.student.helsinki.fi/en/article/order-transcript-studies
The feedback system
The course feedback system is not used in all the faculties and departments of the university (but used e.g. in the Faculty of Medicine). When there is a feedback form for the studies you have taken you will receive an invitation to fill in the form. You can give feedback on the instruction or examinations to which you have participated during a specified feedback period.
Links to the feedback forms where the feedback period has started but you have not submitted your response will also be shown on the first page of WebOodi when you have logged in. In My feedback you can also see all studies in which the feedback period has not started yet and those to which you have already given your feedback.
NB! The Feedback on Oodi link is not intended for course feedback but for questions concerning technical and general problems and observations students may have concerning the WebOodi system.
You can select a language (Finnish, Swedish, or English) by clicking suomeksi, på svenska or in English on the menu toolbar. In addition, you can set your default language from the WebOodi Settings under Other functions where you’ll also be able to define other general setting and menu options. When you log in, the user interface will automatically appear in the selected language. You can also, for instance, choose whether your name is revealed in course registration lists or not.
