Reading to Learn in Helsinki, Ovanåker and Tallinn (R2L-HOT) is a cross-sectoral project funded by Nordplus Horizontal. The project brings the latest developments in educational and linguistic research to reading and writing across the curriculum at primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education, adapting and developing previous work done in Reading to Learn to new cultural, linguistic and educational contexts.

The linguistic basis of Reading to Learn is systemic-functional grammar and genre analysis, which provides teachers and students with the concepts and tools needed for discovering how meanings are made in different genres in different contexts. The educational basis of Reading to Learn is “scaffolding”, which gives students an active role in their own learning process and the skills necessary for lifelong learning.
