Keyboard shortcuts

In most operating systems, it is possible to give commands with the keyboard and not just the mouse. The tables below show some of the most common keyboard shortcuts in operating systems and certain kinds of programs.

Common key combinations

ALT + F4 Shut down a program or shut an open window
ALT + Tabulator Move from one open program to another

CTRL + F Find
CTRL + Z Delete
CTRL + P Print

 

Page Up Go upwards on the oage
Page Down Go downwards on the page
Home Go to the beginning of the page
End Go to the end of the page

 

CTRL + A Select all
Shift+ click on A and B Select everything between A and B
CTRL + click on objects one by one Select several individual objects

 

CTRL + X Cut
CTRL + C Copy
CTRL + V Paste

Key combinations for modifying text

CTRL + B Bold text
CTRL + I Italics
CTRL + U Underline
CTRL + M Increase indent
CTRL + Shift + M Decrease indent
CTRL + Turn upper index text on and off (e.g. m2)
CTRL + Shift + = Turn lower index on and off (e.g. H2O)

 

Ctrl + Home Takes the cursor to the start of the document
Ctrl + End Takes the cursor to the end of the document
Ctrl + arrow key Moves the cursor in the direction of the arrow one word at a time

 

Shift + Home Select the line from the cursor to the beginning of the line
Shift + End Select the line from the cursor to the end of the line
Ctrl+Shift +Home Select the whole text from the cursor to the beginning of the document
Ctrl+Shift +End Select the whole text from the cursor to the end of the document
Shift + arrow key Select one character at a time in the direction of the arrow
Ctrl+Shift +arrow key Select one word at a time in the direction of the arrow

 

Key combinations for web browsers

CTRL + N Open a new browser window
CTRL + T Open a new tab in the browser
CTRL + click on a link with the primary mouse button Opens the link on a new tab in Firefox
CTRL + G Opens a menu window where you cans elect a page to go to

 

On many keyboards, there is a Windows key between the Ctrl and Alt keys. If you are using the Windows operating system and press only this key, it opens the Start menu, but there are other features associated with this key, as well:Windows + E = opens the Explorer program (resource management),
Windows + M = minimizes open windows.

Mac OS keyboard shortcuts

The keymap of Apple’s Mac computers differs somewhat from the PC computers, especially regarding the function keys. In addition, the Max OS keyboard shortcuts differ from the Windows shortcuts in other ways. Therefore, most of the previous commands cannot be used in Mac environments.
