Doctoral student at the University of Helsinki. My research focuses on the economic consequences of the construction of Sveaborg, mainly during the first active construction period in the 1750s. The construction of the fortress was one of the biggest economic investments in eighteenth century Sweden and it was at least partly financed by foreign capital. But where did the money actually go? Who sold bricks, timber and lime to the fortress? From which cities and villages did the goods come? Which social groups were involved in the business? Which professional groups were employed for the construction works? Whom did they pay for the transports and the logistics? In brief, who were the actual winners of Sveaborg?
