The majority of University of Helsinki students complete a traineeship as part of their studies. They will be awarded credits for the traineeship. Traineeships link students’ theoretical studies to real-world work situations, let them apply what they have learnt at the university, and offer students the opportunity to gain relevant work experience and network. A traineeship may also clarify students’ career plans and bring a new perspective to the planning of studies.
For the employer, the traineeship provides up-to-date information about the content and quality of university education. In addition, they will of course gain the benefit of the student’s work output. Traineeships may also be an efficient recruiting channel, since many students will continue working for the same employer after a successful traineeship.
