A delegation from the University of Forestry (Myanmar) visited VITRI to discuss potentials forms of cooperation in particularly capacity building and curricular improvements. The visit was organised by MFA as an initial step to further develop forestry cooperation with Myanmar and continue cooperation in the region. The Myanmar delegation included the Deputy Director General of University of Forestry, Mr. Kyaw Kyaw Lwin, the Director of Forest Department Mr. Tint Swe, and the Deputy Directors Mr. Thein Toe and Mr. Win Naing. The exchange staff from National University of Laos were also present.
The University of Forestry is attached to the national Forestry Department and has been in charge of preparing forestry professionals to work at state institutions. The Myanmar government is planning an educational reform and the University of Forestry is in the process of becoming an autonomous institution in charge of training forestry processionals for both the private and the public sectors thus increasing international cooperation is vital.
