A little break from the studies – the archipelago experience

Blogi_seaWondering what to do during the Summer vacation? How about spending time in the perfect and relaxing destination in front of our city; the stunningly beautiful archipelago. The sea offers an endless number of opportunities in summer and Helsinki’s shoreline is adorned by around 100 kilometres of coast and over 300 islands. Many of these are rather small, half of them having a surface area of less than 0.5 ha.The public park tradition is quite popular at the islands. That’s because it’s easy to go to the islands with the public water transport service – at least to the biggest islands. Welcome onboard!

I definitely recommend you to go to Mustikkamaa. It’s one of the few islands you can reach by foot – really convenient. Helsinki Zoo is also located on an island, Korkeasaari (near the Mustikkamaa) so watch out – it might be grouded, because It’s a very popular attraction in Helsinki.

Kaunissaari lies about 22 km last from Helsinki in Sipoo, almost out in the open sea. From mid-May to mid-September there are boat services to Kaunissaari from Vuosaari. The trip takes about 60 minutes.

You can also check the other islands from the Guide to the Archipelago or from visithelsinki website.

Regardless of whether you are a hard-core sailor or a person who wants to visit in a relaxing atmosphere, the archipelago offers you great destinations.

Have a great summer vacation and relaxing time in Helsinki! See you at the harbor 🙂
