#AHMTampere – the next steps

What a great couple of days – we had brilliant discussions with experts from across the world and across different fields within heritage management. With the help of volunteer students from the universities of Helsinki, Oulu, Jyväskylä and Madrid, and with the help of the session Chairs and Keynote speakers, we have documented the debates had during the Working-Conference, and will report on these later.

Details added of the Conference Excursion

The final day of the conference, Friday 9th June, involves an exclusive walking tour of Tampere.

Highlights include the National Landscape of the Tammerkoski Rapids area – taking in for example the Tampella linen and iron industry factory area, and the Finlayson area .

We will also visit the Adopt A Monument site of Milavida´s cellar (also known as Olgas`s Cellar). The  tour ends at the Milavida palace.

Five weeks to go!!

Työskentelykonferenssi (arkeologisen) kulttuuriperinnön hallinnan opetuksen ja hyvien käytäntöjen kehittämisestä

Vain viiden viikon kuluttua Tampereella kokoontuu joukko suomalaisia ja kansainvälisiä kulttuuriperintöalan asiantuntijoita keskustelemaan arkeologisen kulttuuriperinnön hallinnan opetuksesta ja siitä, minkälaisia näkymiä koulutuksen ja opiskelun kehittämisessä on Suomessa. Eri puolilta maailmaa tulevat kurssin ulkomaiset asiantuntijat ovat Japanista, Libanionista, Surinamista, Yhdysvalloista, Espanjasta, Botswanasta, Iso-Britanniasta, Puolasta ja Tanskasta. Ohjaajien laaja asiantuntemus mahdollistaa koulutuksen tilanteen ja kehittämisen vertailun kurssin aikana.

Kurssin osallistujiksi odotetaan kulttuuriperintöalan opiskelijoita ja jo alalla toimivia henkilöitä, jotka työskentelevät kulttuuriperinnön suojelupoliitikan sekä (arkeologisen) kulttuuriperinnön suojelun ja säilyttämisen, inventoinnin, arvottamisen, toiminnan vaikuttavuuden arvioinnin ja perinnön esittämisen parissa, viranomaisina, tutkijoina tai muissa tehtävissä.

Huomioittehan majoitusta järjestäessänne, että kurssin osallistujille on järjestetty erityishintaan majoittumismahdollisuus konferenssipaikan lähellä sijaitsevassa Tampereen Koskikadun Hotelli Cumulus City:ssä -hotellissa (Cumulus City Koskikatu Tampere). Erityishintaan kuuluvien huoneiden määrä on rajoitettu, varaukset tulee tehdä viimeistään 6.5. mennessä!

Working-conference: Development and Best Practices of (archaeological) Heritage Management as a Course

 

In just 5 weeks experts from Finland and other parts of world including Japan, Lebanon, Surinam, USA, Spain, Botswana, UK, Poland and Denmark will come to Tampere to compare and discuss different situations about how archaeological heritage management (AHM) teaching and learning might look and develop in the Finnish context.

 

We are looking for participation from researchers, policy makers, teachers, trainers, managers and other professionals and students that are involved in the inventory, evaluation, selection, preservation, conservation and presentation of (archaeological) heritage.

 

Please note that we have arranged a special rate at Hotel ‘Cumulus City Koskikatu Tampere’ with a very close proximity to conference venue. Number of rooms at those rates is limited, so please make reservations soon and no later than May 6th!

Nyt voit ilmoittautua!

Helsingin yliopisto, ICAHM:n ystävät, Museokeskus Vapriikki, Pirkanmaan maakuntamuseo ja Newcastlen yliopisto järjestävät työskentelykonferenssin. Se keskittyy (arkeologisen) kulttuuriperinnön hoidon opetuksen kehittämiseen ja suosituksiin.
Konferenssin päätavoitteena on arvioida kulttuuriperinnön hoitamiseen liittyviä opetus- ja koulutustarpeita Suomessa. Tuomme yhteen asiantuntijoita, joilla on kokemusta arkeologisen kulttuuriperinnön hoitamisen opetuksesta niin Suomessa kuin muualla maailmassa. He jakavat käytäntöjään ja suosituksiaan sekä keskustelevat siitä, miten alan koulutusta ja opetusta voidaan kehittää.
Toivotamme tervetulleeksi kaikki kulttuuriperinnön ammattilaiset ja tutkijat sekä opiskelijat!

Student volunteers needed!

Are you a student interested in heritage management issues? Are you eager to meet scholars and professionals from all over the world in this exciting and developing field of research and practice?

We are looking for student volunteers to work with us during the conference. If you are interested in gaining valuable experience, learning more about heritage management and working with professionals from various fields, this is a great opportunity for you.

 The volunteer requirements are:

-Good English language skills

-Good computer skills

-Excellent note-taking skills

-Positive attitude

As a student volunteer you get:

-Free entry to the conference (no conference fee)

-Lunches provided at the venue

-Travel compensation up to the value of 30€

The University of Helsinki, Friends of ICAHM, Museum Centre Vapriikki, Pirkanmaa Provincial Museum and Newcastle University proudly present a working-conference on Development and Best Practices of (Archaeological) Heritage Management as a Course.

 

With this working-conference we aim to identify possible teaching and/or training needs in heritage management in the Finnish context. We bring together experts, with experience in teaching archaeological heritage management from Finland and from around the world, together to share best practice and discuss whether there is scope to develop teaching and learning around cultural (and especially archaeological) heritage management. We welcome heritage practitioners and researchers, as well as students interested in this field.

– FM Ulla Lähdesmäki- Pirkanmaa Provincial Museum / Turku University, Finland

 

– Dr. Aron Mazel – Newcastle University, UK

 

– Professor Helaine Silverman – University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, USA.

 

Conference fee is 50€ (30€ for students), and includes the conference programme, buffet lunch at Museum Centre Vapriikki on 7th and 8th June, participation in the walking tour excursion on Friday 9th June, admission to Museum Centre Vapriikki and the conference reception on Wednesday 7th June.

 

Deadline for registration is Monday 22 May 2017.

Save the date!

Working-conference: Development and Best Practices of (archaeological) Heritage Management as a Course
Tampere, Finland, 7 to 9 June, 2017

The aim of this working-conference is to identify possible teaching and/or training needs in heritage management in the Finnish context. We intend to bring experts with experience in teaching archaeological heritage management from around the world, as well as those that give training in different non-university settings, and Finnish experts together to share best practice and discuss whether there is scope to develop teaching and learning around cultural (and especially archaeological) heritage management.

Preliminary Conference programme:
7 June – Opening of the conference, 2 keynote lectures and breakout discussion sessions
8 June – 2 keynote lectures and breakout discussion sessions, closing of the conference
9 June – City tour focused on Tampere’s industrial heritage and management issues and a visit to one of the ‘Adopt a Monument Sites’.
