Research Fellow appointments

During 2001-2005 I worked as a Research Fellow at the Helsinki Collegium for Advanced Studies, and between 2006-2011 as an Academy of Finland Research Fellow. Funding for both of these posts, as well as for the research projects listed above and led by me, were obtained through open competition with a passing rate of 5 – 15 %.

Publishing activity (for details, see selected publications)

I have co-edited two books and published two of my own, of which the most recent, peer-reviewed monograph Networks in the Russian Market Economy, was published by Palgrave Macmillan in 2011. In addition I have published or have forthcoming 17 articles in peer reviewed journals – among them five in Europe-Asia Studies, one of the central journals in studies of the Russian society, economy and politics and nine articles in scientific edited volumes. During the 2000s I have given 36 presentations at scientific conferences in English, Finnish, French and Russian. (for details, see the list of selected publications)

Teaching

I have taught courses and led graduate and post-graduate seminars on Russian society, political sociology, qualitative methods and social network analysis at the departments of sociology, communication, public health, comparative religion, social and economic history, forest products marketing, and the Aleksanteri Institute at the University of Helsinki.

Administrative positions

  • Member of the  International Advisory Board of the Department of Political Sciences and Sociology at the European University at St. Petersburg
