Projects

My main research project at the Faculty of Arts, University of Helsinki is entitled EARTH (Academy of Finland 2022-2027). The project analyses earthen architecture in the Caucasus and Eastern Mediterranean through geoarchaeology and building archaeology. Currently, I am also leading the project #BuildinginNewLands (Kone Foundation, 2023-26) looking at human-environment interaction in the Western Mediterranean.

I am also the Pi of Building sustainability. Investigating earthen architecture and social practices in the Ancient Near East (2020-2023). This project focuses on earthen architecture and identity in the Iron Age Levantine area during the 1st millenium BCE. I am one of the researchers involved in the Academy of Finland funded Centre of Excellence on Ancient Near Eastern Empires (2018–2025) at the University of Helsinki, in which I am a vice-leader  of Team 3 (Material Culture and Cultural Heritage).

Since February 2020 I am  the PI for NOS-HS workshop series “Earthen Architecture in Nordic research: Historic knowledge, Social impact and Sustainability” (2020-2023) .
