The Software Factory is a software development laboratory that has been designed and implemented at the Department of Computer Science, University of Helsinki. Here, students use state-of-the-art tools, modern processes and best practices to prototype and develop great software for businesses in an environment made to support top-level research.
In the ongoing project, Software Factory students contribute to open source as part of Facebook’s Open Academy Program.
The course has started in early January 2014 with initial preparations based on instructions from open source project mentors. Formal work will begin when period 3 starts at the Department of Computer Science. In February, students of participating universities gathered to a kickoff event in Facebook headquarters in Menlo Park, California.
