Seminar on the 2019 Economics Nobel Prize

On November 25th 2019, TINT will organize a seminar, The Economics & Philosophy of Plumbing, on the 2019 Nobel prize in economics.

The main speaker is Jukka Pirttilä (University of Helsinki, VATT & UNU-WIDER). He will give an overview of the work that was awarded the Nobel prize and discuss some of the criticism concerning their methodology.

Uskali Mäki (University of Helsinki  & TINT), Michiru Nagatsu (University of Helsinki & TINT) and Gutu Olana Wayessa (University of Helsinki & INEQ) will give shorter talks and discuss the Nobel Prize from different perspectives.

Uskali Mäki will focus on the prize in the context of the Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. Michiru Nagatsu will discuss the prize from a historical perspective touching upon an alternative and complementary approach. Finally, Gutu Olana Wayessa will evaluate the prize from the wider perspective of development studies.

The event takes place in room 10 of the UH Main building, from 2 to 4 pm.
