img_3956Recently, a review team combining researchers from CIFOR and the University of Helsinki (including Prof. Kanninen and Nick Hogarth from VITRI), visited Sukabumi in West Java, Indonesia in order to complete the protocol and screen studies for a systematic review currently implemented as part of CIFOR’s Evidence-Based Forestry Initiative. The systematic review centres around the socioeconomic impacts of large-scale tree plantations on local communities.

Arttu Malkamäki, PhD student from VITRI and coordinator of the review, also presented the systematic review protocol and some preliminary results at UIFRO’s International and Multi-disciplinary Scientific Conference in Bogor, Indonesia. The review team also included Anne Toppinen (UH) and Romain Pirard (CIFOR); Dalia Damato (UH) and Zhou Wen (CIFOR) are also team members but where not present in Sukabumi.

Nich Hogarth also participated in a recent systematic review about the environmental and socioeconomic effects of China’s conversion of cropland to forest program
