Higher Education for Food security and Environmental Sustainability in Eritrea (HEFSESE) (2015-2017)

Summary

The overall objective of this project is to support the development of sustainable institutional capacity at  Hamelmalo Agricultural College (HAC) through enhancing the of teachers methodological and pedagogical competencies, strengthening curriculum and training of staff. Only then, HAC will be capable of to contribute to development of society, economic growth and sustainable development of Eritrea.
Recognizing that, human capital in the form of knowledge and skills is a basic input in any production process and investments in education and training are crucial for socio-economic development; HEFSESE project is designed to contribute to building the capacity of HAC in terms of:
1) Human Resource Development: training doctoral degree students, promoting teachers training, enhancing pedagogical skills and developing high-quality research capabilities and promote collaborative research within academia as well as between academia and research centres and to build capacity for scientific and project proposals writing and publications.
2) Institutional Capacity Development: fostering on enabling environment and promotion of quality research culture that will generate results potential for development of best practices and methodologies, acquisition of material and equipment, establishment of nursery for teaching and seedlings production for tree planting.
3) Small-scale tree planting activities in the field together jointly with various other local stakeholders in order to develop permanent linkage and dialogues with the local communities as example for rural development practices in the
future.
