Äänenkannattajat has started the spring semester 2023!

If you are interested in joining us, come to one of our rehearsals to check it out – we have no auditions. We rehearse Thursdays 19:00-21:00 in Mechelininkatu 3D (ring the door bell marked Pupu, and you’ll find us down the stairs).

We still recommend staying home if you are feeling ill.

Do you like to sing? Are you interested in meeting new friends from all over the world? If so, Äänenkannattajat is the choir for you!

Äänenkannattajat (called Äänis for short) is a laid-back international student choir open to everyone, no auditions! We are affiliated with HYY, the student union of the University of Helsinki, but we admit members from all faculties and schools, and even from outside the university system.

NEW SINGERS ALWAYS WELCOME! There are NO AUDITIONS — all we require is an enthusiasm for music and singing! We sing a wide variety of musical styles, from traditional pieces to popular music, and we sing in many different languages (don’t worry, we will teach you how!). The rehearsals are instructed in English.

Our choir members represent numerous nationalities from all over the globe, including Finland. So this is a great chance for international students to get to know Finnish people and culture, and vice versa!

We have two main concerts per year and we also participate in and sing at various other events around Helsinki. We also have a number of social events throughout the year, including an overnight choir weekend at a local recreation centre and sauna evenings where we sing, eat, and have fun together. The main purpose is to sing and have fun with friends!

We practice on Thursdays 19:00-21:00 in Mechelininkatu 3D, about 0.5 kilometers west of Kamppi metro station.

If you’d like to experience the joy of singing together and want to meet some awesome people in a relaxed atmosphere, come join us! New faces are always warmly welcomed, even if only to check us out!
