Äänis 20 years – come to our Ääniverssary concert!

International choir Äänenkannattajat is ending it’s 20th anniversary year with an amazing anniversary concert in Temppeliaukion kirkko. In the concert both the current choir and Äänenkannattajat alumni choir will perform. The programme consists of varied choral music, from modern pop arrangements to classics chosen from a collection of choral works from the two decades of Äänenkannattajat as well as completely new music picked specifically for this concert. Äänenkannattajat has a very relaxed and fun atmosphere, which is infectious to the audience as well.

Äänenkannattajat is a choir where everyone is invited to. There are no auditions and the only thing required from the singers is interest towards choir singing. For many, singing in Äänenkannattajat is their first experience in choir singing. One of the core values of the choir is belief that “everyone has a voice” and that singing can be learned and taught like any other skill. In the two decades the choir has formed to be an integral part of the international community in Helsinki, bringing exchange students, expats and natives together through singing. The conductor and artistic leader of Äänenkannattajat is Tania Sheratte.

The choir is run mostly by volunteers and through semester fees and donations. We are supported by Helsinki University Student Union, which Äänenkannattajat association is a part of.

Tania Sheratte has been conducting Äänenkannattajat since Spring 2020, and is so excited to continue doing so for the choir’s 20th birthday!

Tania is from London, UK and moved to Helsinki in August 2019.

Having studied Music BA at the University of Nottingham, Tania went on to gain a Post Graduate Certificate of Music Education at the University College London’s Institute of Education. She soon became Head of Performing Arts at an inner city London high school for six years.

Since moving to Helsinki, Tania has also set up two of her own choirs: Helsingi and The Vocal Network, and completed a two year conducting programme in global music. She also gives private singing lessons, and records English voice overs for companies both in Finland and abroad.
