BIOREGS last seminar & pikkujoulu were celebrated on Dec. 3rd 2014. The day begun with interesting presentations by seminar guests, continued by BIOREGS pHDs’ speeches and ended with exiting competitions. Greetings from BIORGES members abroad were gladly heard. The great day was completed with delicious foods made by chefs at Unioninkadun juhlahuoneistot. Thank you all for such a nice last get-together!

The Best BIOREGS Doctoral Thesis Prize (1500 €) winner is Hannes Orelma on the doctoral thesis entitled “Cellulose based bio-interfaces for immunodiagnostic applications”, which was approved with distinction at Aalto University.
The selection was made by Reijo Aksela, Kemira Oyj.

BIOREGS excursion abroad was arranged in September 4-7, 2013. During the excursion 28 students and supervisors visited interesting places such as Norwegian University of Life Sciences (UMB) in Ås, Norway and biorefineries in Sarpsborg, Norway (Borregaard) and in Kalundborg, Denmark (Inbicon).

The Finnish-Swedish Summer School in Biorefinery and Biocomposite Analysis (Åland, June, 2012) was successful and got positive feedback. Read more from here.

Almost 50 students participated to the “Advances in Biorefineries” course which was jointly organised by BIOREGS and PaPSat in the end of May 2012.

The director of the BIOREGS doctoral programme changed in the beginning of 2012, the new director is now Maija Tenkanen. Many thanks to Liisa Viikari for the past two years!
