The aim of the “Learning of the competencies of effective climate change mitigation and adaptation in the education system”(ClimComp) is to make the education system change in Finland. The education system needs to be changed so that society is able to respond to climate change mitigation and adaptation challenge and to meet the Government of Finland’s target to be carbon neutral by 2035.

The objectives of the ClimComp proposal are:

  1. to analyze the climate projections and societal need for new competencies,
  2. to equip the education system change to respond the needs of climate change mitigation and adaptation,
  3. to have new scientific understanding, how the youth behavior and new understanding of the climate change could be fundamentally improved, and
  4. to improve pro-climate policies in Finland in interaction with national stakeholders and to bring the ClimComp tools and new knowledge to international use.

The ClimComp work is divided to four work packages:

WP1 Climate projections and societal need for new competencies

WP2 Tools to teach and learn climate competencies in the education system and beyond

WP3 Creating optimal learning moments

WP4 Transforming the education system in Finland and internationally to respond the needs of climate change mitigation and adaptation
