CV and Research

I am a PhD Student in political science at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Helsinki. My research has been funded by the Doctoral Programme in Political, Societal and Regional Change and the Finnish Cultural Foundation. In 2015/2016, I visited the Dublin European Institute, University College Dublin.

I obtained my Master’s degree from the Department of Political and Economic Studies, University of Helsinki, and I hold a Bachelor’s degree in political science from the International School of Social Sciences, University of Tampere. Work placements at the Representation of the European Commission in Berlin and a European affairs consultancy in Brussels prove highly beneficial in conducting my own research, because I have gained a practical understanding of EU decision-making and national implementation processes.

Between 2013 and 2015, I was part of the Academy of Finland project Politics and Numbers: Global Governance and Policy Instruments led by Tero Erkkilä, and I was the coordinator of the interdisciplinary seminar series Helsinki Seminar on Governance and Institutions.

The doctoral research project is entitled Dissent, Disunity and Discourse: A Comprehensive and Relational Approach to Parliamentary Contestation. It aims to (a) provide novel empirical insights into German parliamentarism; (b) advance our theoretical understanding of politicisation and depoliticisation in the parliamentary context; and (c) develop a mixed-methods approach to political discourse that combines a content-oriented focus with an actor-centred perspective.

In general, my research interests include:

  • Parliaments
  • Political parties
  • European integration and Europeanisation
  • Politicisation and depoliticisation
  • Democratic theory
  • Representation in theory and practice
  • Nationalism
