Research project

The Incorporating Vulnerability research project offers new approaches to feminist research of violence. The aim of the project is to reveal and question normalized manifestations of gender-based violence previously overlooked in research as well as in anti-violence work.

This project challenges the hierarchic distinction between ‘real’ physical violence and ‘mere’ emotional abuse and broadens the understanding of both the meaning and the consequences of psychological, social and systemic violence. The project recognizes how both the experience of physical and psychological violence as well as healing, is connected to social norms and systems of power.

The Incorporating Vulnerability research project is pursued at the Gender Studies program of the University of Helsinki. The project is funded by the University of Helsinki three-year grants for the years 2016–2018.
