STAFF CHANGES
Long-time teachers Pirkko Olsonen and Donald Smart retired from the Language Centre’s English Unit.
New teaching staff appointed to permanent positions include Kaisa Alanen (Swedish), Elvi Huhtala (Swedish), Mika Aromäki (English), Natalie Palmén (English), Anna-Maria Peltomäki (Finnish), Riikka Järvelä (speech communication) and Hanna Vainionpää (speech communication).
Other new permanent staff members include translators Veli-Pekka Saarinen, Lauri Mäkelä and Irene Kvarnström and language revisor Kristiina Jalas.
AWARDS AND ACHIEVEMENTS
Head of Development Sinikka Karjalainen, University Lecturer Tuula Lehtonen, Lecturer Graham Wood, Lecturer Marjatta Alestalo and Director Ulla-Kristiina Tuomi received medals awarded by the Finnish Federation of Learned Societies.
The Association of Finnish Non-fiction Writers presented Marjatta Alestalo with a textbook writer’s award.
