Artikkelit ovat kopioitavissa Renvall-instituutin toimistossa osoitteessa: Unioninkatu 38 A, huone A124.

Valmiit kurssitehtävät palautetaan Renvall-instituutin toimistoon Suppeat tehtävät viimeistään 18.12 2007 Laajat tehtävät viimeistään 8.1 2008

SUPPEA TEHTÄVÄ (3-4 sivua // 3 op osasuoritus)

Valitse artikkeleista yksi tai kaksi tekstiä. Kohdat 2 ja 5 muodostavat yhden kokonaisuuden, koska osa teksteistä on hyvin lyhyitä. Ajattele, että kirjoitat lyhyen lehtiartikkelin teemasta, jota valitsemasi tekstit käsittelevät.Muista osoittaa tekstissä mitä materiaalia olet käyttänyt.

LAAJEMPI TEHTÄVÄ (8-10 sivua // 5 op osasuoritus)

Valitse kolme tai neljä artikkelia. Kohdat 2 ja 5 muodostavat yhden kokonaisuuden, koska osa teksteistä on hyvin lyhyitä.

Laajemmassa esseessä haasteena on keksiä valitsemiasi tekstejä yhdistävä näkökulma, jonka puitteissa saat muodostettua oman itsenäisen tekstisi.

Autumn term 2006

Regions, nations and dynamics of cooperation: “the Nordic model” in societal and economic perspectives (3-6 cr)

COURSE ASSIGNMENTS (updated 11.1.07)

Please bring the course assignments as 2 paper copies to the office of political history. There is a separate box for them. The grades will be released by 31 January 2007.

The due dates are: 15 December for the lecture diaries and 10 January for the essays. Especially as to 5-6 credits options, you can submit the whole “package” of assignments in January but consult me first (as some of you already have)

Remember to mark on all papers 1) your name 2) your student number 3) study unit and the amount of credits you wish to obtain

In lecture diaries, no additional references other than the lectures are needed. In essays (also the “reflective essay” whether or not integrated into lecture diary), please use light footnoting that shows where you have derived direct citations and/or key ideas, interpretations. Add a list of bibliography in the end of the text indicating the footnoted articles. You may use other articles than those on the readings list but the same rules apply also here. Please use the 12 points’ font and the space lining 1.5.

The course works will be graded using the scale from 1 to 5. The emphasis is on the course assignments but also the lecture attendance and overall activity counts.

General info on course works

The course assignments consist of a lecture diary and an essay. These two texts can also be integrated into one text by focusing in more detail on those themes that you find interesting. In any case, the more detailed discussion should be based on the relevant articles (see the readings list). Especially as to the 3-5 pages “reflective essay” (3 cr) the integration strategy can be recommended. With longer essays it may be easier to compose two separate texts.

LECTURE DIARIES should pin down the main points of each commented lecture and reflect them against the overall themes of the course. Preferably, a lecture diary starts with a brief introduction (what was the course about etc.), followed by the commented lectures and, then, a conclusion (what did I learn about the themes of the course, what was especially interesting to me, what less etc.). The diaries should not just repeat the contents of a lecture (the ppt slides) but mediate a feeling for the reader that you have been listening and thinking about what you heard. Personal reflections on what you have learned previously, comparative remarks also to other than “Nordic” cases, questions and even critical remarks are welcome!

ESSAYS

For the essays select from the readings list

  • 2-3 texts for the 3 credits option (3-5 pages essay)
  • 4-5 texts for the 5 credits option (15 pages essay)
  • 5-6 texts for the 6 credits option (20 pages essay)

NOTE: the 6 credits’ option assignment consists of a lecture diary and one 20 pages’ essay (not an essay PLUS reflective essay as is mentioned on the opinto-opas page!)

Some suggestions for the essay titles

NOTE: these titles only provide points of departure. Please feel free to reformulate them or to make your own title – the main thing is that the title corresponds the contents of the essay.
