Rakoczi G (TU Wien)

27.5.2024, 10:30–11:10, Small Hall (F4050)

TU Wien, Austria’s largest technical and scientific research and education institution, has been using Moodle continuously for almost two decades. In this presentation, we will describe how Moodle has grown to become the central learning platform for the entire university, acting as a central hub for digital teaching and learning. We will highlight the custom development that has been required and also discuss the impact of the Corona pandemic. We will give insights into what plugins we have integrated over the years and also report on successes such as user growth and acceptance etc. We will cover lessons learned from topics such as GDPR, IT security, accessibility, policies, etc. We will also highlight how important the Moodle community and open-source have been during these two decades, giving an overview of our commitments to the Moodle community, cooperations (local, national and international) and working with our power users as drivers for practical use cases. We will also focus on what is not working well in Moodle and possible future improvements across a range of issues such as usability, competencies etc. During our journey, supporting teachers and students has been key, so our presentation will also cover our support processes and strategies, documentation approaches, as well as our solutions for promoting networking, training etc. Finally, we will also give insights into statistics as well as key issues for the future such as AI, e-assessment, EU alliances etc.
