Mistä ihmeestä tässä kaikessa on kyse?
Niin, mitä me oikeastaan teemme ja miksi?
Me olemme Helsingin yliopiston museologian opiskelijoita, ja tehtävänämme on uudistaa Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseota. Kuten kerroimme jo aikaisemmassa postauksessa, museo on avattu vuonna 1960, eikä sen näyttelyä ole paljoa sen jälkeen uudistettu. Nyt tavoitteenamme olisi tuoda näyttely tähän päivään.
Projektia varten olemme jakautuneet ryhmiin kuuden eri temaattisen aiheen ympärille (tulemme esittelemään jokaisen ryhmän tarkemmin blogin edetessä). Teemoina ovat: näyttelysisältö / virtuaalinen näyttely; yhteisön voimaannuttaminen / paikallisten haastattelu; yleisön osallistaminen; vihreä jalanjälki; sekä kokoelmapolitiikka. Viimeisimpänä – muttei vähäisimpänä – olemme minä ja Jenny, blogin kirjoittajat, ja meidän tehtävänämme on tallentaa projektin etenemistä ja julkaista siitä tietoa sinulle.
Tavoitteenamme on siis antaa Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseolle eväitä näyttelyn uudistamiseen. Kurssin lopuksi annamme museolle tietopaketin, jonka pohjalta näyttelyä voidaan alkaa uudistaa. Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseon henkilökunta esitti meille tällaisia toiveita:
- näyttelyyn kaivattaisiin väljyyttä,
- esineille toivottaisiin parempaa esittelyä,
- esineiden käyttöä yms. voisi havainnoida paremmin muun muassa kuvin ja videoin,
- näyttelystä haluttaisiin vuorovaikutteisempi: esimerkiksi joihinkin esineisiin saisi koskea.
Tavoitteena ei kuitenkaan ole tehdä mitään radikaalia muutosta tai repiä vanhaa näyttelyä alas, huoli pois! Haluamme kunnioittaa vanhaa ja tehdä maltillisia muutoksia. Lisäksi haluamme osallistaa ihmisiä näyttelyn uudistamiseen. Siksi kysymmekin: mitä sinä haluaisit muuttaa Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseon näyttelyssä? Mikä ei saisi sinun mielestäsi missään nimessä muuttua?
Saimme jo ensikontaktin museoon, kun kävimme tutustumassa siihen paikan päällä 24. tammikuuta. Tällaisia tunnelmia museo herätti:
- näyttelyssä on paljon tavaraa,
- toisaalta tämä on hyvä lähtökohta: museossa on paljon potentiaalia,
- rakennus itsessään on mahtava ja esineet mielenkiintoisia,
- museosta näkee, miksi se on yhteisölle tärkeä.

What on earth is this all about?
Yes, what are we actually doing and why?
We are students of museology at the University of Helsinki and our mission is to modernise Vehkalahti regional museum. As we have already told you in our last post, the museum has been open since 1960, and its exhibition has been little renovated after that. Now it is our objective to bring the exhibition to this day.
For the project we have been divided to groups with six different topics (we will introduce groups more thoroughly as the blog goes on). Topics are: exhibition content / virtual exhibition; community empowerment / local interviews; audience engagement; green handprint; and collection policy. Last – but not least – are me and Jenny, writers of the blog, and it is our job to record the progress of the project and publish information of it for you.
Therefore, our goal is to give tools for Vehkalahti regional museum aiming at the renewal of the exhibition. We will give information kit for the museum at the end of the course and based on it the renewal of the exhibition can be initiated. The personnel of the Vehkalahti regional museum gave us these kind of desires for the exhibition:
- that there would be more space for objects at the exhibition,
- that objects would be better introduced for audience,
- that the use of objects etc. would be better displayed for example through pictures and video clips,
- that the exhibition would be more interactive: for instance, some objects could be touched by audience.
However, the aim isn’t to make radical changes or tear down the old exhibition, worry not! We want to respect old and make moderate changes. We also want to participate the public to the renovation. So we ask: what would you want to change at the exhibition of Vehkalahti regional museum? What can’t change to your opinion?
We had our first contact with the museum when we visited there 24. January. We had these kinds of feelings:
- there’s lots of stuff in the exhibition,
- on the other hand, this is good starting point: the museum has lots of potential,
- the building itself is great and objects are interesting,
- one can see, why the museum is so important for its community.

Yleisötilaisuus Vehkalahdessa 15.2.

Olet lämpimästi tervetullut kertomaan ajatuksistasi meille museologian opiskelijoille lauantaina 15.2. pidettävässä yleisötilaisuudessa Vehkalahden kotiseutumuseolla.
Tilaisuudessa on sukututkija Kalevi Heikkisen luento knaappisuvuista klo 14.30, kahvitilaisuus luennon jälkeen, klo 15.30 mahdollisuus tutustua museon näyttelyyn oppaan johdolla. Uudistusehdotusten kerääminen alkaa klo 16.00. Tapahtumaan on vapaa pääsy!
A public event in Vehkalahti 15.2.
Do you have ideas, thoughts and wishes about the reform of the Vehkalahti Local Museum? Do you know interesting stories behind the museum objects? You are welcome to tell your thoughts to us, museology students, in a public event in Vehkalahti Local Museum at Saturday 15.2.
First there will be a lecture about Knaappi families of Vehkalahti by Kalevi Heikkinen at 14.30 in the event. Before that there will be coffee service, and a possibility to guiding tour in the museum at 15.30. The collecting of reform proposals starts at 16.00. The admission to the event is free!
