Welcome to the 5th Nordic Zooarchaeology Meeting in Helsinki from the 1st to the 3rd of February 2024!

The annual Nordic Zooarchaeology Meeting has become a key venue for zooarchaeologists to meet, network and share their discoveries. The meeting provides an informal setting for friendly discussions, sharing our passion for studying animal remains and gives an overview of the state-of-the-art of the zooarchaeology in Northern Europe.

The meeting is open to all zooarchaeologists and osteologists working with faunal remains from archaeological contexts. As this meeting takes place on the eastern side of the Baltic Sea, we would like to extend this originally Nordic network to the Baltic countries and invite our colleagues working in these areas as well.

The meeting will begin with an informal get-together on January 31st at the Department of Archaeology in Helsinki. The 1st and 2nd of February will be devoted to the scientific program and presentations. On February 3rd the scientific program continues in the morning and in the afternoon there will be an excursion to the Finnish Museum of Natural History.
