NoSP 2014 over

Dear Conference participant,

The organizing committee (Sara, Simo, Timo, Jussi, Mirja) would like to thank all the speakers and guests for the wonderful three days of NoSP. Great presentations and discussions, friendly atmosphere and variety of topics made again the conference what it is: a wonderful meeting point for scholars interested in the Nordic scene of phenomenology!

We cannot publish individual email addresses here, but if you are interested in acquiring someone’s email address, please be in contact with Timo Miettinen.

Have a great rest of the spring and see you in Södertörn,

The NoSP 2014 organizing committee

Pubs, wine bars, breweries

We have assembled a list of recommended pubs, wine bars and breweries. Some of them provide local specialties, some are located close to Tieteiden talo and some are just nice places to mingle and blow off some conference steam:

1.      Marian helmi (Snellmaninkatu 17)

A cozy place with a decent selection of beers and wines, located quite close to Tieteiden talo & Arppeneaum.

2.      Bryggeri (Sofiankatu 2)

Brewery-restaurant near the Senate Square, provides five to six beers of their own plus a small selection from Finnish microbreweries. Might look small but there’s usually room downstairs.

3.      Kaisla (Vilhonkatu 4)

A pub nearby the University and the Railway Station that has a very good selection of beers, both domestic and export. Might get crowded especially on Fridays and Saturdays.

4.      Teerenpeli (Olavinkatu 2)

A decent pub in Kamppi (in direction of Hotel Helka) that provides a good selection of beers from Finnish microbreweries plus they also make their own whiskey. Might get crowded on weekends.

5.      Bar of Hotel Torni (Yrjönkatu 26)

A classic place on the tenth floor that has a great view over Helsinki. Serves drinks, wine and beers. This is where Sartre and Beauvoir stayed as they visited the Helsinki Peace Conference in 1955!

6.     Kafe Moskva (Eerikinkatu 11)

A bar owned by the Finnish film director Aki Kaurismäki. Feels like the Cold War never ended. If crowded, try Corona next door!

7.      Latva (Korkeavuorenkatu 25)

A wine bar with a good selection of wines and a fairly good selection of microbreweries. Worth the walk.

Lunches

Dear conference guest:

For your convenience, we have added a helpful list of recommended lunch restaurants that are located near Tieteiden talo. There are some other restaurants as well but in terms of serving, these are among the quickest (as you know, the lunch breaks are quite short). There are no special offers but most of the places serve lunch for less than 10 euros:

More info on pubs & restaurants will follow!
