Luther’s exegetical tools

For understanding Luther’s interpretation of the Bible, following items might be worth consulting. The list does not contain modern editions, which include many patristic and medieval authors such as Augustine, Jerome or Gregory the Great.

Augustine‘s works, the volumes containing biblical commentaries. 1506 Basel edition, which was also available in Wittenberg, has been digitized by Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, München and Thüringer Universitäts- und Landesbibliothek, Jena (collection “Bibliotheca Electoralis”, including the former library of the University of Wittenberg). Includes commentaries of Francis of Meyronnes.

  2. Pekka,
It is great to see a site beginning to put together a collection of digitally available resources familiar to Luther in the 16th century! I will try to send you soon a few links to other resources that have been digitized. All the best from the USA!

  3. I added links to Basel edition of Augustine’s works, which include also some commentaries of Francis of Meyronnes.

  4. Thanks for the link, which I really need to consult for my dissertation.
