We are pleased to invite you to the

XXVII Paulo symposium: “Organelle communication in metabolism – from intracellular lipid fluxes to fatty liver”

taking place during 13 -15 June, 2016, in Majvik, near Helsinki, Finland.

This symposium honors the 50th anniversary of the Paulo Foundation.

Disorders of fat metabolism are connected to major public health threats, such as metabolic syndrome and type II diabetes, atherosclerosis and even cancer. The underlying mechanisms of fatty acid storage and breakdown, and the regulation of these functions, are currently under intensive investigation.

This symposium focuses on the storage and breakdown of fatty acids: how cellular compartments coordinate the storage of fatty acids as triglycerides and their breakdown for energy production. How do the endoplasmic reticulum, lipid droplets and mitochondria communicate during these processes? What goes wrong in disease conditions? These topics will be discussed by leading international experts during this exciting 3-day (and nightless night) symposium in the Finnish countryside by the sea.
