”ALICE – what a sweet name” – Kielikeskuksen akateeminen kieli- ja kulttuurivaihto

Osallistuin viime keväänä Kielikeskuksen ALICE-kurssille. Kyseessä on kurssi, joka kehittää  kulttuurintuntemusta ja syventää kielitaitoa – avainsanana autenttisuus. Kurssin rakentuu kahdelle eri äidinkieltä puhuvalle opiskelijalle, jotka asettavat itsenäisesti yhteiset tavoitteensa ja aikataulunsa. Kurssisuoritus muodostuu vapaamuotoisesta oppimispäiväkirjasta, joka kirjoitetaan kohdekielelle. Sivun lopusta löytyy lisätietoa kurssista ja ilmoittautumista.

Ohessa kokemuksiani ja fiiliksiäni ALICE-kurssista. Ranskankieliset pätkät ovat otteita oppimispäiväkirjastani. « C’était un lundi après-midi en plein milieu d’hiver. Il avait à peine neigé, il faisait froid et noir. Je ne trouvais Johnny nulle part. Toute à l’heure, il s’était décrit: « J’ai un béret et un manteau noir complet ». Voilà enfin que je l’ai vu à travers de la fenêtre devant l’entrée de la bibliothèque. Nous avons fait connaissance. Nous avons discuté sur ce que nous faisions, ce que nous étions, ce que nous aimions dans la vie. J’étais contente d’avoir trouvé un binôme qui se passionne pour la musique comme moi…» (Première rencontre avec mon binôme Johnny, le 12 février)

Odottelin Kaisa-talon aulassa ja pyörittelin peukaloitani. Johnny oli ensimmäisen tapaamisen kunniaksi myöhässä puolisen tuntia – syyksi paljastui väärä bussipysäkki. Ce n’est pas bien grave, enfin, pour la première fois… Seuraavien muutaman kuukauden kuluessa opin tottumaan – ja lopulta vastahakoisesti hyväksymään – jatkuvan myöhästelyn. Baskeri päässä sekä aina vähintään 20 minuuttia myöhässä… Mais quel cliché… ?! 

Tämänkaltaisia pieniä kulttuurieroja kohtasin usemman kerran enemmän  tutustuttuamme. Heti ensitapaamisesta näin kuitenkin, että kyseessä oli hyvä tyyppi: utelias, avoin ja mukava. Johnny oli muusikko ja vannoutunut haaveilija. Suomeen hän oli halunnut tulla varta vasten, koska rakasti lunta ja tiesi voivansa opiskella Erasmus-vaihdon aikana ohjelmointia.

Ensimmäisten tapaamisten lomassa sovittiin yhteistä tavoitteistamme ja niistä asioista, joita erityisesti Johnny haluaisi kevään aikana Helsingissä kokea. Minulle Helsinki oli jo tuttu muutaman vuoden asumisen jälkeen, ja kaipasinkin vähän ”turistin” silmiä näkökulmaani virkistämään. Helmikuussa tapaamiset liittyivät muun muassa Ranskan Instituutissa vierailuun ja ranskalaisista elokuvista keskusteluun, jäällä kävelyyn sekä suomen kielen alkeiden opetteluun. Johnny oli kotoisin Lyonista ja kertoi pitävänsä Helsingistä erityisesti sen ilmaston vuoksi (Lyon oli aivan liian kuuma kuulemma…). En tiedä oliko se sitten sen vuoksi, kun hän kulki usein katuja pitkin takki auki, hanskat hukassa ja vain baskeri tuulen suojana…

« Grâce au groupe d’Alice sur Facebook, nous avons pu saisir l’opportunité de faire de la luge avec toute la neige tombée. Nous sommes partis au nord d’Helsinki avec Jakob et Jean. Il faisait un froid de canard et Johnny avait malheureusement oublié ses gants à la maison ! Je ne comprends toujours pas comment il a fait pour vivre en cet hiver exceptionnellement neigeux à Helsinki… et sans gants ! Au moins, il aura quelque chose à raconter à ses petits-enfants… « Alors mon petit, j’ai connu l’hiver en Finlande… et j’ai survécu sans gants », a plaisanté Johnny.  (Faire de la luge avec d’autres participants d’ALICE, le 23 février)

Maaliskuun tapaamiset painottuivat puolestaan illan hämärään. Vein Johnnyn keikalle Kallioon (Maustetytöt Café Mascotissa) ja käytiin muutamaan otteeseen muuallakin oluella tai parilla. Yksi mieleenpainuvimmista kokemuksista kurssin puitteissa oli varmasti Ranskan Instituutin järjestämä klassisen musiikin konsertti Temppeliaukion kirkossa (et gratos!). Käytiinpä yksi ilta myös pelaamassa erät biljardia ja maistelemassa venäläistä olutta. Keskustelu pyöri ranskalaisen poliitikan ympärillä – asia, mistä useimmilla tapaamillani ranskalaisista on aina paljon sanottavaa. Milloin se on Sarcozy, milloin Macron…

« Johnny est sorti gagnant. Dommage pour moi, mais c’est la vie…  Après la défaite cuisante, je voulais aller boire un verre à côté, au Kafe Moskova. Pour la grande surprise de tous les deux, la barmaid s’est mise soudain à nous parler en français ! Elle nous a proposé de boire des bières russes. Bon, encore une raison pour Johnny de constater qu’en Finlande, tout le monde parle plusieures langues étrangères – contrairement à sa propre expérience en France. »  (Partie de billard au Corona suivie d’une bierre russe au Kafe Moskova, le 21 mars)

ALICE-kurssin tarkoituksena on lähtökohtaisesti puhua molempien osallistujien äidinkielellä ja näin kehittää vastavuoroisesti molempien vieraan kielen taitoja. Johnnyn kanssa sovittiin jo aluksi, että keskustelu käytäisiin lähinnä ranskaksi. Johnny ei valitettavasti päässyt suomen kielessä alkeita pidemmälle ja englantia ei kumpikaan jostain syystä käyttänyt kahdenkeskisissä keskusteluissa. Tant mieux, sillä ranskan kieltä ei mielestäni pääse ikinä käyttämään Suomen maalla liiaksi saakka.

Kohokohtia Alice-kurssin tapaamisissa oli useita, mutta mainittakoon vielä yhteinen illallinen Konstan Möljässä muutaman muun kurssilaisen kanssa. Elettiin huhtikuun loppua ja kevät oli jo pitkällä. Johnny ja belgialaiset kummastelivat usein sitä mitä lautasilleen lappoivat ja toisen suomalaisen kanssa ei aina osattu itsekään sanoa mitä oltiin juuri tarkalleen syöty. Toutefois, c’était délicieux !  Keskusteltiin mm. Ranskan ja Belgian kulttuureista, ranskan kielen moninaisuudesta ja sille tyypillisistä eriskummallisuuksista (nonante vs. quatre-vingt-dix).

Viimeisen tapaamisen kunniaksi käytiin leffassa sekä ihmettelemässä Eiran värikkäitä fasadeja.

« Vu que nous aimions le cinéma français, nous sommes allés voir un film récemment sorti. Je voulais en particulier aller voir ce film en question, car j’avais commencé à lire l’oeuvre sur laquelle le film était basé il y a un an – sans la finir. » (Soirée cinéma à Kino Engel: Au revoir là-haut, le 4 mai)

ALICE-kurssi oli kaiken kaikkiaan hyvä kokemus, ja suosittelisin sitä kaikille, jotka haluavat syventää ranskan kielen taitojaan ja tutustua ranskankieliseen ihan kotikaupungissaan –mikä sen mahtavampaa! Mikseipä vaikka fuksille heti syksyn ratoksi ranskan kieltä verryttämään?
