The 20th Helsinki Summer Seminar on International Law Tensions in the Law of Treaties 18-29.8.2007

The law of treaties is based on contractual underpinnings, yet is increasingly asked to serve the community interest. As a result, there is a multitude of issues that the law of treaties cannot handle at all, or can only handle with great difficulty: Reservations, treaty conflicts, revision of treaties: often situations arise where the law of treaties seems to have no solution on offer. The 20th Helsinki Summer Seminar on International Law aims to take stock of developments in the law of treaties, and to provide a platform for discussion.

The summer seminar is organized in co-operation with the Faculty of Law at the University of Helsinki, the Centre of Excellence in Global Governance Research as well as the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.
