22nd Helsinki Summer Seminar on International Law Linking State Responsibility with International Criminal Law 17-28 August

International law has moved towards individualization, particularly when it comes to issues of responsibility. Focus has changed from traditional state action to individual action as exemplified by the flourishing of international criminal law. Having multiple sets of responsibility in international law necessarily raises questions: What is the relationship between the traditional law of state responsibility and international criminal law? Conceptually they stand separate but are there things linking them together? Are they competing branches of international law or do they complement each other?

The purpose of the 22nd Helsinki Summer Seminar is to provide a platform for discussions on recent developments regarding issues of responsibility and their interconnections.

The Helsinki Summer Seminar is aimed at students, trainees or professionals who wish to deepen their knowledge of international law, to be exact the relationship between the traditional law of state responsibility and international criminal law. In previous years, the participants have mostly been Master or PhD students and professionals.
