Books available are marked with a P in a green ball. There are a few ebooks in the platform which are not accessible for us.

Lecture of a Pulitzer-Prize Winning Author Richard Russo on Monday, September 24, 2012 – Welcome!

INVITATION

The American Resource Center (ARC) launches the fall program with a lecture of a Pulitzer-prize winning author Richard Russo.

Richard Russo is an American novelist, short story writer, screenwriter, and teacher. His first novel, Mohawk, was published in 1986. His 2001 novel Empire Falls received the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. He has written six other novels and a short story collection.

Russo co-wrote the 1998 film Twilight with director Robert Benton, who also adapted and directed Russo’s Nobody’s Fool into a 1994 film of the same title, starring Paul Newman. Russo wrote the teleplay for the HBO adaptation of Empire Falls, the screenplay for the 2005 film Ice Harvest, and the screenplay for the 2005 Niall Johnson film Keeping Mum, which starred Rowan Atkinson.

Night at the Campus festival transforms Senare Square into a Student’s Living Room

On Monday, September 10, World Student Capital will organise a city
festival ?Night at the Campus?, where students will take over the
Senate Square. The programme will focus on the themes of the project:
housing, cycling, living campuses and societal entrepreneurship.

The programme includes the prize-giving ceremony of the competition
on new forms of student-housing, a discussion panel on space as the
enabler of learning and well-being, performances by student bands,
choirs and theatres as well as scientific debates. The new library of
the university of Helsinki, Kaisa, as well as the student unions of
the Helsinki region will be bringing their functions to the square.

The theme of the festival is ?The Students? Living Room?, and space
is central to the programme of the festival. As well as a traditional
stage there will be living room-like corners and tents where both
students and city dwellers can claim the Senate Square as their own
living room.

The Main Library is open!

The new main library in City Centre Campus opened its doors yesterday, 03/09/2012 at 9:00 am.

The Usher Arto Rämö opened the doors, he  was working his last day before retirement.

On the opening day at the Main Library dealing a total of 8,700 customers.

The International Aristotle Bibliography Online on Trial (-30.9.2012)

The International Aristotle Bibliography Online is the most complete database on Aristotelian scholarship available on the web.

The database covers more than 100 years of publication. It presents an invaluable resource for all those interested in (ancient) philosophy. Under the continued editorship of Richard Ingardia, the Bibliography will be updated with hundreds of the most recent publications, as well as with additional entries from previous years.
