New Group Mentoring Programme to Be Launched

The group mentoring programme of the University of Helsinki will be kicked off again in November 2014! Active mentors and students are wanted.

The group mentoring programme will be organised at the University of Helsinki already for the fourth consecutive time. Previous experiences have proved encouraging:

Mentor feedback (2014):
”There was lively discussion our group. The themes we covered included career specialisation, project management, and career paths. The conversations were very rewarding and unreserved, and I was able to learn a lot myself. I hope I was able to share my experiences and open new perspectives for my mentees.”

Student feedback (2014):
”The group was excellent. At first I thought mentoring would work best as a pair, but I think I was wrong – a group provided five times the joy! I heard more experiences and received peer support.”

This autumn the group mentoring will be organised in three languages: mentoring will be offered in Finnish, Swedish and English. As the mentors will be chosen first, the language of each mentoring group will be determined according to the wishes of the mentor. The students will thus have information on the language in which the mentoring groups will communicate available when applying. All written material will be available in all three languages, but the kick-off and final meetings that all groups participate in will be held in Finnish.

Mentors will be able to sign up in August, and the application period for student applications will open in October.

The Career Services, Communications and Community Relations and Centre for Research and Development of Higher Education (YTY) are also involved in realising the programme.
