13th Sep at 14:15: Vivek Sharma

Our next colloquium in the autumn series is by Vivek Sharma from the University of Helsinki on Sep 13th at 14:15 in Physicum E204.

Vivek Sharma completed his doctoral degree in 2012 from the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Helsinki. From 2013-2016, he was Academy of Finland postdoctoral researcher in Tampere University of Technology (now University of Tampere). He started his research group in 2016 at the Department of Physics as an Academy of Finland research fellow. Prior to his associate professorship, he held the post of Sigrid Jusélius Foundation senior researcher from 2021-2023.

The title of the talk is:

Proton pumps in biological energy conversion

The event will take place on Friday 13.09.24  at 14:15 in Physicum E204.

The event was also be streamed via Zoom: https://helsinki.zoom.us/j/61083314010

Abstract of the talk:

In this talk, I will discuss how energy production takes place in biology. The tight interplay of negatively charged electrons with positively charged protons in complex biological environments results in efficient enzyme catalyzed biological energy conversion. Understanding the complexity of this process requires multiscale computational methods that are applied on high-resolution 3D structural data.
