Early June tends to be quite good a time to visit Helsinki. Summer will have just arrived and everything will be green and lush, and the apple trees and lilacs should be in bloom. June is the sunniest month in Helsinki, and with luck, temperatures will be hitting 20°C. And with 18+ hours of daylight, the sun will still be high in the sky when the conference sessions end around 5-6pm.
The conference will be held in Metsätalo in central Helsinki. Metsätalo received its name – ‘Forest House’ – from its original inhabitants, the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, who moved in after the building was finished in 1939. Today the building houses the Department of Modern Languages, including the English Philology unit, who are hosting CHINED IV.
Metsätalo is located a very short walk from the Central Railway Station. It is also a mere 5min from the iconic heart of Helsinki: the Senate Square (which is flanked not only by Helsinki Cathedral, but also by the Main Building of the University of Helsinki). The central location of Metsätalo means that there are countless cafes and restaurants nearby, and the Market Square with its food stalls is only a short walk away.

Address: Unioninkatu 40B, 00170 Helsinki
NB! The main entrance is on the Kaisaniemenkatu/Fabianinkatu side (the red placemarker in the map above).
Several buslines run from Helsinki airport into the centre of town. The trip takes 30-45 minutes depending on traffic. There is the Finnair citybus (6.30 €) and the regional bus no. 615 (5 €). Both busses terminate at the Central Railway Station, and the journey takes about the same time.
A taxi from the airport is likely to cost at least 45-50 € (see the airport website for details).
