HEL-LEX 6: How to Reach Gargnano

The Symposium will be held at Palazzo Feltrinelli, at 3 Via Castello, Gargnano (Brescia, Italy). See map below, marker B.

General information

  • Milan Malpensa is Milan’s intercontinental hub, but it also the least convenient airport and the furthest from Gargnano.
  • Bergamo Orio al Serio / Milan is not the closest airport, geographically, but it is very well connected to both Milan and Brescia (the latter is a key stop to reach Gargnano).
  • Brescia and Verona airports are the closest to Gargnano, but they are also very small and offer fewer connections to the main cities. Of course, Brescia airport is very convenient to reach Brescia’s coach station, from which coaches to Gargnano depart.
  • If you fly to Milan, the best public transport option is to take a train to Brescia and then the Brescia-Gargnano coach.
  • If you fly to Bergamo or Verona, the best public transport option is also to take a train to Brescia and then the Brescia-Gargnano coach.
  • Once you reach Gargnano, please do not confuse Villa Feltrinelli (a local five-star hotel) with Palazzo Feltrinelli (our venue).
  • If you plan to spend a few days holidaying in Northern Italy before and/or after the Colloquium, renting a car is an excellent idea.
  • Reaching Gargnano from Desenzano by ferry, with or without a car, is itself a wonderful tourist experience – consider that option too.
  • One final note: reaching Gargnano may take a bit of planning, especially if you are an international / intercontinental traveller. However, it is well worth the trip, as D.H. Lawrence and, well, Mussolini had well understood in their respective historical periods. Safe travels!
