Gambling policy challenges on Nordic conference

A total of 116 attendees from various parts of the world gather in Helsinki for next week’s 1st Gambling Policy Conference: Global Prospects, Nordic Perspectives. Gerda Reith, Rebecca Cassidy and Charles Livingstone are among the speakers.

On the 6-7 November 2017, the first of what is hoped to become a series of conferences on gambling policy is arranged in Helsinki. New types of gambling and the challenges that these pose for regulation will be discussed by Gerda Reith from University of Glasgow. Markets shares of foreign operators’ internet-based games in the Netherlands and in Finland are compared in view of regulation aims and possibilities. This study is a collaboration project between Alan Littler and Johanna Järvinen-Tassopoulos.

The afternoon session on Monday the 6th is devoted to a book launch session of the book Setting Limits: Gambling, Science and Public Policy authored by Pekka Sulkunen, Thomas Babor, Jenny Cisneros-Örnberg, Michael Egerer, Matilda Hellman, Charles Livingstone, Virve Marionneau, Janne Nikkinen, Jim Orford, Robin Room and Ingeborg Rossow. The book gathers the existing scientific knowledge on gambling policy and formulates good praxis. The book will be published during the year 2018.
