Fresh from the press – Gambling Policies in European Welfare States

CEACG researchers Michael Egerer, Virve Marionneau, and Janne Nikkinen are the editors of the new book “Gambling Policies in European Welfare States. Current Challenges and Future Prospects” published by Palgrave MacMillan. This volume discusses the contradictions in promoting gambling for good causes, which were rarely addressed before in this depth and quality.

The book is a collection of case studies of European gambling regulations from the perspective of various disciplines. It shows the diversity of policy approaches and pinpoints their advantages and downsides, as well as showing their embeddedness in the jurisdictions’ general welfare policies as well as in the countries’ historical developments.

The official book launch for Finland (and in Finnish) takes place in Säätytalo (Snellmaninkatu 9-11, Helsinki), October 9th, 2018 (13.00-16.00 o’clock) in cooperation with the Finnish Society for Alcohol and Drug Research.

The book is available for purchase in hardcopy or as an e-book at:
