”Lääketieteellinen kehitys maha-suolikanavan sairauksien tutkimuksessa ja hoidossa on viime vuosina ollut nopeaa. Myös tautikirjomme on muuttunut: helikobakteeripositiivinen ulkustauti on yhä harvinaisempi, mutta tulehdukselliset suolistosairaudet ovat lisääntyneet voimakkaasti. ” Psykoterapiat määritellään ammatilliseksi keinoksi auttaa psykologisin menetelmin ihmisiä vapautumaan heidän hyvinvointiaan haittaavista oireista tai käytöksestä. ”Alkoholin ja muiden päihteiden käytön kasvaessa myös päihdehaitat ovat lisääntyneet. ”Työ ja terveys Suomessa 2012 on Työterveyslaitoksen asiantuntijoiden laatima katsaus työolo- ja työhyvinvointitilanteesta Suomessa. Edelliset vastaavat kirjat ilmestyivät vuosina 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006 ja 2009.
Kirjan sisältöä on muutettu siten, että työelämän uudet asiat ja työuriin vaikuttavat työkyky- ja voimavaratekijät tulevat aiempaa

Kirjaa varten tehtiin keväällä 2012 laaja puhelinhaastattelututkimus, jonka tuloksia on käytetty hyväksi kirjaa kirjoitettaessa. Tuloksiin liittyy aiempaa enemmän epävarmuutta muun muassa siksi, että puhelinnumeroiden saatavuus ja henkilöiden tavoitettavuus ovat heikentyneet.
Haastattelun yksityiskohtaisemmat tulokset julkaistaan Työterveyslaitoksen internet-sivustolla (www.ttl.fi/tyojaterveys), jossa on myös kuvattu tarkemmin tutkimuksen menetelmät ja pohdittu saatujen tulosten luotettavuutta.”

Näin Konrad ReijoWaara (1853-1936) kertoo 1890-luvulla kulkutautien aiheuttajista. Tämä kansantajuisen terveysvalistuksen pioneeri oli lähes ehtymättömän työtarmon mies. Hän työskenteli kokopäiväisesti piirilääkärinä ja samalla kirjoitti yli tuhat artikkelia, piti saman määrän esitelmiä ympäri Suomea, toimi yhteensä yli kaksikymmentä vuotta perustamiensa Duodecim- ja Terveydenhoitolehden päätoimittajana, palvoi isänmaata idolinsa Snellmanin hengessä, osallistui monien yhdistysten toimintaan sekä väitteli tohtoriksi kirjoittamalla väitöskirjan, jota jälkipolvet luonnehtivat alansa klassikoksi.

In 2012, the WHO Regional Office for Europe collected information on alcohol consumption and related harm, and countries policy responses to contribute to the Global Information System for Alcohol and Health; this report presented a selection of the results for 35 countries – EU Member States and candidate countries, Norway and Switzerland – individually and in groups distinguished by their drinking patterns and traditions.”
