Lux Helsingin Pink Caravan – teoksen kolmantena kohteena nähtiin Kaisa-talo, jonka kauniin pinkkiä valaistusta sai ihailla klo 16-22 välisenä aikana. Helsingin yliopiston pääkirjaston sisätiloihin sijoitetut vaaleanpunaiset lamput saivat koko rakennuksen hehkumaan.
Ainu Palmun valoteoksen neljäs kohde julkaistaan tänään klo 22.00 Lux Helsingin Facebook-sivuilla.

Siittiökato – Mikä meitä ympäristössä oikeasti uhkaa? esittelee havainnollisesti elinympäristömme monet riskit. Teoksessa nostetaan esiin sellaisia riskitekijöitä, jotka ovat terveytemme kannalta merkittäviä, mutta joita ei aina ymmärretä kovin tärkeiksi. Terveyden ja hyvinvoinnin laitos (THL) arvioi eurooppalaisen sairastavuuslistan ja OECD:n kehittämien terveydenhuollon laatuosoittimien soveltuvuutta suomalaiseen rekistereihin perustuvaan terveystietojärjestelmään. Julkaisussa esitetään kansalliset trendit ja sairaanhoitopiirikohtaiset vertailut vuosille 2005-2009.

Suuren suosion saavuttanut Helsingin yliopiston kirjaston tuolikilpailu päättyi 24.10. Vastauksia kertyi peräti 646!
Parhaaksi tuoliksi äänestettiin Yrjö Kukkopuron suunnittelema Karuselli (numero
9), joka sai yhteensä 171 ääntä. Toiseksi äänestettiin tuoli numero 8
– Mikko Pakkasen Nietos (84 ääntä) – ja kolmanneksi tuoli numero 10 :
Yrjö Kukkapuron keinutuoli Moderno (82 ääntä). Jokainen kilpailun 13
tuolista sai kannatusta.

Aivovammoja ei kuitenkaan voida tarkastella vain taloudellisena ja yhteiskunnallisena haittana, vaan jokainen tapaus on suunnattoman suuri yksilö- ja lähiyhteisötason tragedia. Eutanasia : hyvä kuolema on ylilääkäri Juha Hännisen kannanotto ajankohtaiseen keskusteluun saattohoidosta, potilaan nukuttamisesta sietämättömien kärsimysten lievittämiseksi sekä eutanasiasta eli armokuolemasta.
Eutanasia ei ole ihmisen subjektiivinen oikeus. Se on lääketieteellinen toimenpide, joka pohjautuu ihmisen omaan toiveeseen ja lääketieteelliseen arvioon keinoista lievittää kärsimystä. Kun ihminen toivoo kuolemaa ainoana hyvänä asiana loppuelämässään, ideologinen ajatus saattohoidon ensisijaisuudesta kuolemaan nähden on potilaan yli kävelemistä.
Eutanasia : hyvä kuolema pohjautuu ylilääkäri Juha Hännisen aiemmin ilmestyneisiin pääkirjoituksiin, katsauksiin ja kolumneihin. Tässä teoksessa hän keskustelee itsensä kanssa saattohoidon mahdollisuuksista sekä eutanasiasta ja kuvaa, kuinka aiemmin eutanasiaa vastustaneesta saattohoitolääkäristä tuli ajan saatossa armokuoleman mahdollisuuden hyväksyjä. Tyttöjen ja naisten ympärileikkauksen estämisen toimintaohjelma 2012-2016 (FGM).
”Tyttöjen sukuelinten silpominen ts. tyttöjen ympärileikkaus on kaikissa muodoissaan yksi väkivallan muoto, joka loukkaa tyttöjen ja naisten ihmisoikeuksia. Myös Suomessa on oltava selkeät ohjeet kuinka toimia tyttöjen ympärileikkauksen ehkäisemiseksi, uhkatilanteisiin puuttumiseksi ja lasten suojelemiseksi sekä ympärileikkauksen tekijöiden oikeudelliseen vastuuseen saattamiseksi.
Toimintaohjelman tarkoituksena on luoda pysyviä valtakunnallisia ja alueellisia rakenteita tyttöjen ja naisten ympärileikkauksen estämiseksi. Täten halutaan varmistaa jo olemassa olevan osaamisen säilyminen sekä ennaltaehkäisevän työn kehittäminen pitkäjänteisesti. Lisäksi toimintaohjelman tarkoituksena on yhteistyön tehostuminen, työnjaon selkeytyminen ja koordinaation parantumineneri viranomaistahojen ja muiden toimijoiden kesken. The latest addition to a series of HBSC reports on young people’s health, this report presents findings from the 2009/2010 survey on the demographic and social influences on the health of young people (aged 11, 13 and 15 years) in 43 countries and regions in the WHO European Region and North America. Responding to the survey, the young people described their social context (relations with family, peers and school), physical health and satisfaction with life, health behaviours (patterns of eating, tooth brushing and physical activity) and risk behaviours (use of tobacco, alcohol and cannabis, sexual behaviour, fighting and bullying). Statistical analyses were carried out to identify meaningful differences in the prevalence of health and social indicators by gender, age group and levels of family affluence.
The aim was to provide a rigorous, systematic statistical base for describing cross-national patterns, in terms of the magnitude and direction of differences between subgroups, thus contributing to a better understanding of the social determinants of health and well-being among young people, and providing the means to help protect and promote their health.”

Authors from pioneering groups report in their chapters on the tissue homeostatic, tissue regenerating and regulatory properties of NAbs and NAbs in pooled human IgG. Scientists interested in the regulation and modulation of components of the immune system found a whole variety of NAbs to cytokines with regulatory and protective functions and NAbs that modulate, e.g., dendritic cells, regulatory T cells, B cells and granulocytes. Considering the large plasma pools and initial difficulties in preparing IVIG that does not induce adverse effects upon infusion into recipients, this volume ends with a historical chapter on how pooled human plasma was fractionated and the IgG component pretreated for a safe intravenous application.”

“Treatment of glioma is currently one of the most challenging problems in oncology, as well as in neurosurgery. Despite major advances in our understanding of the pathomechanism, diagnosis by imaging and the availability of powerful therapeutic tools, the life expectancy of patients with glioblastoma has only been slightly prolonged and a cure remains elusive. None of the currently available surgical tools, including operative microscopes, lasers and image-guided surgery, can enable the detection and removal of all of the tumor tissue. In recent years, however, the landscape has been changing immeasurably, and molecular studies over the past two decades have identified a variety of genetic aberrations that are specifically associated with individual types of gliomas. In addition, certain molecular abnormalities have been linked to therapy responses, thereby establishing clinical biomarkers and molecular targets, and the use of novel agents is being investigated. These agents have been specifically engineered to exert specific cytotoxicity against gliomas, either on their own as single agents or in combination with other modalities.Moreover, there has been an enormous surge of interest in the area of immunology and immunotherapy, which has been facilitated by our understanding of the molecular basis of gliomas. Although several kinds of immunotherapeutic trials have been undertaken, we still await a great breakthrough in terms of clinical efficacy to prolong the survival time of glioma patients.”
